Meade DS-2090 Refractor Telescope £115 at Costco

£115.00

57°

FOUND BY: Kallisti 11 months, 2 weeks ago

Really nice telescope with Autostar fully motorised computer.. Umm, that's about all I know about it, but I couldn't resist buying one. Had a play this evening and it's very clear view, up to 133x very very clear magnification. You could probably put a 2x on that and still be pretty clear, or reduce the mm on the eyepiece...

Some spec is listed on http://www.meade.com/starterscopes/ds_series.html

Hi

Could you please clarify if you are talking about

http://www.acecameras.co.uk/asp/web/.../1/product.asp

or

https://www.astronomia.co.uk/astro/i...ID=26&catID=36

Sorry to ask, but I'm not too sure which one it is as the first one of my 2 links does not actually appear on the Meade website that you posted. in your original post.

To answer the questions..
1/ Yes, including VAT
2/ It's the Refractor - the longer one. The stubby, wider ones are called Reflectors and this model comes as both. To be clear, the one you linked in Ace Cameras
3/ I'd imagine it's all Costcos - Reading has it on it's welcome displays by the door, lots and lots of boxes in stock.

Now, anyone want to buy a reflector or a Busnell refractor? Really must clear out some of the old ones before I get divorced

Sorry I'm still confused.

Which model is in Costco please? You say the stubby wider ones are called reflectors but, the link to Meade website says the stubby one DS 2090 MAK is a refractor!

Is there any value in the 5 piece eye kit included for £189.00 (£74.00 for the 5 piece)? Or should a novice be content with just 1 eyepiece.

I'm not sure where you're getting your pricing from. The 5 piece eye kit is included in the Costco one (6mm->25mm).
At least two eyepieces are very useful and the more the merrier. If you want to pick out something very small, it's useful to be able to start at 25mm and work your way down. SLIGHTLY less necessary when the computer is finding things for you, but still nice all the same.

I believe there's a pretty relaxed personal membership available now. It's got mildly restricted weekday hours, but not so you'd notice very much. If not, trade membership is quite easy to arrange though I would think so as I have a couple companies I can do it through. if you know a member you can probably get them to add you to their membership for about £15.

Whoever mentioned MAK? The one Costco sell is like the one in the image on the original posting, and is the top one in the Meade website it links to. The full model number to differentiate it from the reflector appears to be Meade DS-2080AT-LNT. Hope that clears it up.

So surely that makes it a Meade DS 2080 not 2090.

I'm really helping here! I should just shut up. I failed to notice that the Meade website only listed the reflector ds2090 now - apparently that's replaced the ds2090 refractor (which presumably is why they're being sold off cheaply).

Anyway, see the picture at the top? That's the one, It's model number is DS2090
