£34.49

FOUND BY: iCodd 11 months, 5 days ago

I was looking for a RAM upgrade for my Sept' 08 Macbook and found Crucial having a promotional offer on the RAM I was after.

Seems good to me as it was £50~ in October!

Only £2.49 for Special D too!

Seems good to me or is this memory not good? I'm tempted to double mine to 4GB at this price!

From what I have heard most of the Mac Aficionado think crucial do the best matched RAM around. Especially with lifetime guarantee!

You can get 2GB modules individually from play.com for £11.99, making 4GB of memory £23.98. (£10.53 cheaper than this deal)

Suppose, but it depends if you want reliable RAM or not.

Reliable RAM???

Do you feel that PNY ram from play.com will break down, or not make your macbook function at the same speed as crucial ram ?

I've had both, by the way, and there is no difference as far as I'm concerned.

Don't get me wrong. I'd normally go to Crucial as a 1st port of call, as they are normally cheapest, but play's prices at the moment are better.

Ive just heard through some people that PNY are very hit and miss in terms of quality and life, also I'm not guaranteed to get a matching pair from play, whereas crucial will send me a pair.

The PNY ram has a 10 year warranty on it so i pretty sure you are covered on the reliability stakes there as i am pretty confident in 10 years time you will not be using the machine you are planning to put this in and i am sure in 10 years time we will all be saying can you remember the days of only 4gb of RAM

I'd be more tempted by the original offer to make sure it's a matched pair. Plus you should get it faster than Play!

RAM is RAM. Buying 2 X 2GB PNY modules from play, is the same as buying 2 X 2GB modules in a single pack from Crucial. The not using matching pairs thing, is only really relevant if you're using say a 1GB and 2GB module.

Passenger57: The PNY ram from Play is the same specification as the Crucial ram. Check the numbers. The PNY ram is the right memory for a Macbook.

If you want to throw £10.53 + delivery away, that's up to you.

After speaking to a few people I know who work in IT, they assured me while you're right they put more faith in Crucial than PNY. The quote of "you get what you pay for" was banded around a few times. Each to their own I guess.
