I think this was posted before but I can't find it now and it's worth a bump!...

Free cavity wall and/or loft insulation is available to homeowners and private tenants over 70, or in receipt of one of the following qualifying benefits or tax credits. Any member of the household can be over 70 or in receipt of the benefit and you don't even need to be an E.ON customer to apply.

* Income support.
* Housing benefit.
* Council tax benefit (not including single occupancy reduction).
* Income-based jobseeker's allowance.
* Attendance allowance.
* Disability living allowance.
* War disablement pension (which must include mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance).
* Disablement pension credit (which must include constant attendance allowance).
* Child tax credit (with a household income of less than £15,592).
* Working tax credit (with a household income of less than £15,592).
* State pension credit.
* If you are over 70 years old.

sorry must have read it wrong "homeowners and private tenants over 70", thought it was all homeowners (one group) and over 70's (second group).

This scheme has been running for a the last few years. It is one of those schemes where public money is thrown at fat cats with the excuse that it is of some benefit to the 'valnurable'. You will be assest by Warmfront which will do an estimate of the cost. If the Government grant doesn't cover the cost (as you can imagine it doesn't in most cases), you need to pay the remainer. The problem with this scheme is that you need to employ an 'approved' company to carrie out the work. These 'approved' companies are not cheap and some of them are actually gansters who try to get you to spend more money than what is needed. I have looked into this scheeme myself because I am elegible but decided it's not for me. Be very careful before you sign anything and if in doubt, consult a CAB or some other independent advice service before you hand over any money.

Sadly not. the 2 groups are the homeowners or private tenants, and the subgroups are over 70 or getting benefits. It's definitely not ALL homeowners.

That's 100% wrong Pet2000. This is a genuine scheme for those who qualify where the whole cost is covered by the Eon scheme. Call them and check if you don't believe my post. They also do a discounted scheme for those not on the above beneefits for Eon customers where cavity wall or loft insulation is around £180-£200 in total (no extra costs).

Makes my blood boil the amount of freebies and cheap stuff those on benefits get.I look forward to the day i retire so i can enjoy all the freebies and not have to work for them.

nearly 2million unempolyed , yet we cant find people to work in farmers fields from the uk....or clean hotels, work in fast food restaurants, waitresses etc,etc,etc

I work and i am a single parent , but i get a little help with my rent and council tax, so this will benefit me , my house is so cold my bills are gas and electric are over £100 each a month,, i rent privately and my landlord will not help me after time and time again asking him for installation in the roof . ,

so as u say above another benefit for being on benefits ,,,, NOT TRUE , this will help my bills come down and i work . so this is hot , thx op

Not entirely wrong in my experience. They would only have covered about one third of the cost and I would have had to pay the rest. I would also have had to clear the loft completely in advance. They would not move anything.

Because they are not insured to. What if they broke a valuable???? What if the injure themselves. Move your own bl**dy rubbish!!

Some People? I wonder if you realise what it is like to live 'On the breadline'?

Makes me sick those that complain about the poor getting handouts. The word (Aptly at this time of year) SCROOGE comes to mind. Have you read the book? If so you would understand just how familiar your rant sounds.

FWIW I just paid £175 to have my walls insulated in Nov. Not on benefits but OH retires next month. Could have waited but couldn't be bothered. Might get them to do the loft in January tho.

Anyway Fub. Good post. Heat added.

The Eon scheme for those who qualify does cover the whole cost of the work. Yes you have to clear your loft but that's not a cost is it. It is 100% free for those who qualify - no money is paid by the homeowner.
