OK, here's another one, but this time under the "magic" £400 barrier. Exceptional spec for the money. This is a model identified as having one of the best bang-per-buck when new (October 2008) at full price (>£600) but has since been discontinued by Acer. At £400 this is a better laptop than you will get anywhere - the only possible downside is that it is a refurbished model. It is, however, factory refurbished and mine is as-new.

Don't forget 2% Quidco.

Main specs from my received unit:
Intel® Core 2 Duo P7350 (2.0 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache)
15.4" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite LCD TFT
HDMI
eSATA
3GB RAM (2GBx1 + 1GBx1)
250GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Disk Drive
8X DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive
NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600M GT 512MB VRAM
Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 5100/5300 (dual-band quad-mode 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N)
6 cell Li-ion Battery
5 in 1 card reader (SD), (MMC), (MS), (MS PRO), (XD)
1.0 MP Crystal Eye Webcam

Though this is listed on the Dabs website as having a T5750 the unit I received has a P7350 - a vastly better chip.

Edit 2: It's now £373.84.

I haven't blown cold on it as it seems like a good deal.

However, i'd be wary of buying something that was voted to be a cracking bit of kit, but then gets discontinued just 2 months later. I'd be suspected a fatal flaw of somekind.

I hope that's just my paranoia talking though

Hmmm. I ordered a Acer Refurb ASM5610 Core 2 Duo E4500 2GB 250GB Vista base unit from them for under £90 but they just canceled the order as can't get the stock. Listed at a higher price a day later.

Also, got a refurb Asus from them (eee 900 now sold) complete with the previous owners details on the system.

I think that was down to the introduction of the 6900 series which overlaps in terms of cost but which offer a slower graphics chip along with 16:9 "HD" displays (which just happen to be cheaper to include than the standard 16:10 WXGA). But then I'm surmising.

I've done a quick search for "5930G problems" and "5930G reliability" and I've not found anything.

be careful with the warranty ; Dabs refurbs usually only have 3 months ; anyone like to guess how much one of these laptops would cost to fix ?

I think the cause of refurb on these is likely to be the 9600m

Why? Did you get to the end of the article?

:
As for high-lead bumps, Hara went so far as to say, "Intel has shipped hundreds of millions of chipsets that use the same material-set combo. We're using virtually the same materials that Intel uses in its chipsets." Unless GeForce 9600M GPUs suddenly start failing in droves, MacBook Pro users can probably breathe a collective sigh of relief and go back to flaunting their notebook choice on Internet forums.
Mine has a new mainboard and touchpad, the customer was Acer - this is a factory refurb, probably down to a failed QA test.
