Voted cold because this is a low quality tv the Contrast ratio is only 1000:1 Much better quality lcd's out there.

Don't believe the 20,000:1 contrast ratios that you see.
They are dynamic ratios. The true ratios are usually 1000:1 or less for the panels.

This is a great price as its the full 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution so has the ability to dispay the full detail in 1080p material ( this is currently only on blueray or HD DVD discs though).

there is much better quality...but for the price? thus value?

Good price, I have an Acoustic Solutions 32" LCD TV and the contrast is a bit poor (relatively speaking) but the picture quality is very good and unless you are pernickety about these things you won't really worry. I personally would chase the 32" Sony ones that are floating around atm for better value at this price point but this, if you must have a 37" is a good deal.
