Loft topup Insulation 5.4SqM 200mm thick for £5 at B&Q!!!

£5.00

382°

FOUND BY: wacko911 1 year, 2 months ago

I spotted this one at B&Q tonight at the Craigavon Warehouse in Northern Ireland, I can't find it online and not sure if it's available in smaller stores. There were no prices anywhere to be seen but when I asked it scanned at £5!

EDIT: Confirmed to be a fiver at most stores

The deal is for a pre-cut roll of mineral loft insulation for £5. These packs are unbranded in plain white plastic packaging and they had 2-3 pallets towards the font of the store.

Each roll is is pre cut to allow for different joist spacing and has measurements of 1100mm x 4900mm x 200mm (5.4SqM).

Admittedly, everyone now qualifies for a grant to have loft insulation fitted, but even with the grant the price is usually around £200 and not exactly quickly installed . I think many people could get themselves sorted a lot quicker and cheaper by making use of this deal, although you will need to install it yourself! At less than £1 per sq meter this is a cracking good deal for 200mm topup insulation and will pay for itself in months not years.

(note this was originally posted @£10 by robimitchell
http://hotukdeals.com/item/267209/loft-insulation-5-4sqm-200mm-thick-/ )

The image shows £9 these are now scanning @ £5.

That's very cheap, will check out the Washington store tomorrow as I had already planned to buy some at Wickes over the weekend.

The cost of loft insulation at Wickes was previously about half that of B&Q but that new price totally smashes Wickes out of the water.

Wickes price = £9.71/m3

B&Q price = £4.63/m3

B&Q have also matched Wickes on the branded insulation at approx £9.7/m3

Many thanks wacko911, heat and rep added

Is this stuff suitable for the ceiling of the loft? If so how do you stick it to the top so it doesn't fall down?

Also does a pack of 3 cover 3 x 5.4m so I only need a third of the packs than I first thought?

You can use a staple gun and plastic sheeting to hold it in place but if you want to make a sort of play storage room i recommend plaster board which you waterproof with pva glue on 1 side first. also leave the eaves some gaps or fit air grills to alow for breathing

Each pack has a total area of 5.4 sq m - but can be easily split apart to fit between the joists. You'll need as many rolls as you first thought.

This is a good deal. I bought some of their Eco-wool Insulation in December - its made from recycled glass bottles. Can't remember the price but it was around £7 a roll - on their 2 for one offer - but its much nicer to handle, you don't need a mask nor gloves - worth thinking about if like me you come up in big nasty rash whenevr you touch this cheaper mineral fibre.

Not True, certain councils also offer it free to everyone

Good find.

Most people like myself though will just be doubling up their insulation, it's extremely unlikely that you could get this for free. Saw one of those 'eco' houses on the tv recently that had 600mm of insulation in the loft.

Just found this,
:
270mm - 300mm is the optimum depth for loft insulation,
For anyone who's living in a older house, get yourself up into the loft and check out your insulation and if necessary put some more up there and reduce your heating bills. Cavity wall insulation is great too, check out any possible grants and get it done. I had the cavity wall insulation done about 10 years ago and really did notice the difference. Remember that insulation keeps heat in during the winter but also keeps heat out during those warm summer nights.

For the average semi the loft space is approx 45m2 and if you take away the area taken up by roof joists etc you only need 8 of these B&Q packs so it's only going to cost you £40 to add an extra 200mm of insulation.
