Becker Z101 Europe 4.3" Widescreen SatNav with TMC - £97.98 + £10 Gift Voucher @ Halfords

I have been looking for a cheap Sat Nav with lane assist and turn previewing and came across this Becker unit online for £97.89 with a £10 gift voucher. It looks great, has quite favourable reviews (from the few ive read) has full European maps, lane assist, turn previewing (which I know Tomtom had from day one) and TMC. From what Ive read TMC is no where near as good as Traffic Master but you normally have to pay for a TMC aerial for other basic Sat Navs so its good that its in there for free. It says on the blurb that TMC auto route diversion is only available in some European Cities (not uk) The mapping is done by Navteq which is the one used by Garmin so that's reassuring (to me anyway as im replacing this unit from a Nuvi) I also think this unit is hackable as it runs WINCE5 so you should be able to run Mp3/Movie players and other CE apps.
Another freebie from out of the box is a Years free Speed camera updates! Yeah they probably won't be as good as the Pocket GPS database but it only has to save you once to stop you from getting from at least 3 points and a £60 fine.

Good price, becker navs work really well but sometime the menu can be a little tricky, had mine for 2 yrs & paid a lot more than £97 quid Much better than most in this price range Signal lock almost identical to the Garmin. Becker shows a 2mph difference in speed compared to the Garmin (which one is right?) Free roam navigating on the becker also shows speed AND altitude (why altitude?) Display isnt as colourful on the Becker compared to the Garmin but its a higher resolution. Out of the box the Becker displays loads of different points of interest and at first it was quite distracting because I kept noticing things I didn't know was there (Its good though, don't get me wrong) No automatic switching to night time view on the Becker compared to the Garmin but its only 2 presses of the screen to activate it. One nice feature of the night time display on the Becker is having a partial horizon as its not tilted as far as the Garmin so you get a thin line of sky which has stars and the edge of the moon. Any other questions on this unit I would be happy to answer but so far its all good  |
