Stumpled upon this when looking for a cheap homeplug set, and finding it to have 4 ethernet ports for £24.99 from play was an awesome bargain!

However, in order it to work you need 2. Which would mean 2 for £49.98, but thats still cheaper compared to some of the other homeplugs out there, heck even on play they've got the Home kit which has two of these for £99.99. So its definitely a saving and you get a couple ethernet cables with them to get you started!

A couple of these are perfect if your hooking your Xbox 360 up wirelessly or just your home network and they are very efficient and very well reviewed. Get your 360 hooking up to Live for cheaper than the official wireless adapter, and its got 4 ports so you can have upto 4 devices hooked up.

Amazon.co.uk: £49.99 (Each)

Dont forget Quidco and 5% off for RAC Members!

You certainly can since its got 4 ethernet ports on each homeplug you can have upto 4 devices connected up at same time.

A typical scenario would be, you have 1 homeplug in a socket in one room with your hooked up using ethernet to Xbox 360, PC, PS3, Wii etc...and have the other homeplug hooked up to the router in the other room. It works as though you have directly connect an ethernet to your router.

Heres a diagram of a typical setup from Netgear:

Hope that helps :D

The in built switch is nice if you need it although little switch boxes don't cost much anyway.

I'm getting these ZyXEL PLA-401 200Mbps - http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=311688 - £43.69 (free delivery being a member of AV Forums) - the same ones also available at misco aswell at a slightly higher price.

There are some newlink ones at scan which are at £40 but of course they don't include the 4 ethernet ports for those wanting multiple devices at the same time. The equivalent ones are at £55 so all in all a decent deal if you want multiple devices. (prices excluding delivery)

Don't you have to be careful with these in regard the speeds they offer ? Only asking as i see these are 85mbps and i know the mother in law bought some recently that were 200 mbps . think very carefully about the sp[eed you want on the connecting machines , 85mbps on a pc is pretty useless IMHO .

Agree with sentiments but not fact. Most people (including myself) use this to connect a cable modem, for example, to another room where the pc is. Since my cable modem can only download at 20mbps this way of connecting is upto 4 times faster.

I know you never actually get full throughput but I have never not got my full internet connection with this.

The thing to be aware is not to mix 85 and 200 mbps ones. also hope your neighbours 3 houses up aren't also using these or loads of different equipment on their circuits!

85mbps is faster than 54mbps wireless for a start, even allowing for losses.

A wired connection will be 10 or 100mbps unless you've got Gigabit (although your PC probably hasn't got Gigabit capability anyway)

Your broadband connection will be slower than this at 0.5 to 8mbps or possible 24mbps if yopu've got a super dooper mega fast contract.

I've got 200mbps Zyxel Homeplugs and routers and am very happy with the speed - response times are so fast it's like the NAS drives are in the PC!

You won't get full speed AT your device with 200mbps Homeplugs however, as your speed will be device-limited by the network speed of the device you have got connected.

The ones the OP has posted are an excellent price as they have 4 ports.

My setup uses Zyxel 200mbps Homeplug 'cable' wireless routers as combined Homeplug/Switches/Wireless Access Points (which I got form PC World at a bargain £24.97 each), two stand-alone Zyxel 200mbps Homeplugs (£49 for two at Amazon), a Zyxel media streamer and my BT HomeHub. Everything now hidden away and not a wire in site!!

Homeplug signal will not pass through your electricity meter due to the circuitry in the meter, nor can it cross between phases.

Your Homeplug signal cannot pass to a neighbour's mains circuit unless you are on the same meter (eg in bedsits etc).

These 85mbps plugs are fine for internet and streaming SD media however If you are wanting to stream HD media then the 200mbps ones are the ones to go for

I hope you have more luck than I did with these, I had a pair of the 200Mb versions and the speeds were slower than 11g wireless, even when plugged into sockets only a few feet apart. Plenty of other people seem to have them working fine so I can only assume that my wiring was causing the problem (the house is very old).

In my house the electric sockets I would want to use these in are already used for other things (TVs, Fridges, Reading lamps) etc. I heard the previous models would not work on a 4 gang extention lead. Anyone know if this newest version will work of an extention lead.

Thanks

Plugging into the likes of a 4 gang extension is a no no. It reduces the signal quality [or similar] which becomes even worse if anything attached to that extension is turned on!

Best used on their own in a 'dedicated' socket. I have the 200Mb Zyxel ones and they are brilliant!
