Thanks for this.
I bought my dad one like this for Christmas but it wouldn't work.
Will try this one.
Nipped out to my local Maplins in Harlow and got one.
One more left in store if anyone is interested.

Link not working for me.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=225778

First thing... it is TRULY enormous, they don't kid when they say big buttons!

Unless it has learning capability, I wouldn't bother. It's not clear from the info, but it says "Replaces most common functions " which means it won't do EVERYTHING, so I suspect not.

Why is that funny.
I can imagine this being a Godsend to some elderly people.

1. Yes. Why not?
2. It's just a quote from the remote's feature list I copied and pasted, it applies to the outdoors world too.
3. Some elderly or partially sited people have been known to venture out to the shops, they might stumble upon it there.
4. Word of mouth.
5. Gift idea? Jumpingphil bought this remote for his Dad.

You can pick up similar (non backlit) models for £6 (have seen them in cheap shops, possibly inc B&Ms). Not voting, but not hot for me...

That sounds like what I originally bought for my elderly, partially sighted Dad.
Don't know why that sounds funny, but there you go.
I got that one working on my new telly but I couldn't get it to work on my Dad's telly, which is also new, so it went back.
I got one of these today and will be round to my Dad's house tomorrow to see if works there.
I think the idea behind these is superb for people like my Dad 'cos the buttons on a regular remote can be very small and close together.
Let's hope some people never have to experience old age and failling eyesight and therefore won't have a need for these funny things.

Being disabled myself, and no stranger to varying abuse from those who should know better, I do get a certain satisfaction knowing and telling them that such people always end up that way themselves, eventually they get the message - unless of course they come into the other category - the alternative to old age and infirmity is to die when you are young and fit, and that's not exactly good news either!
