FOUND BY: studio500 10 months, 1 week ago

Bare Bones system supports Intel LGA775, Pentium 4, Pentium D, Celeron D, 533/800/1066 MHz FSB

Found a link for cheap memory here just £3.42 for 512mb but can probably find higher ram elsewhere
http://funkygiraffe.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1&page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=40417&category_id=18761

Also found a great thread on other users who have built the system here

http://www.avforums.com/forums/windows-media-center-edition-mce/348233-finally-found-ideal-mce-case-barebones-etc.html

Seems like a great price and easy to upgrade with the odd hard drive many of us have lying around.

I like that it has the scart plug on it for an older TV. Do you need a TV Tuner card to use this though?

Or can you plug an ariel directly in? I can't see a slot.

Also this will only take the older LGA775 processors by the looks of it. Not sure if the bios could be flashed for the dual cores?

a hard core cpu is not really needed is it?

mid range dual core cpu would be fine to run this connected to your tv.

can you get a low profile gpu with hdmi?

can you put a blu ray drive in this htpc?

not true, where did you get that from??
This going by the published specs lacks the ability to use any of the core2duos let alone anything bigger such as a quad.
Speaking from experience the cpus this does support are very unsuitable for a lounge use media center/htpc
Good news is this looks like a standard uATX case so replacing the mainboard shouldn't be a prob, makes it a sorta expensive case though.....

Once you've added a CPU, hard-drive, TV Tuner card and a copy of Windows, you'll probably be better off spending the extra and building a better spec machine based on newer technology. It'll last you longer and will fit in better with the more modern TVs.

Personally, I have a server upstairs to record from a Freeview card and store programs and a PS3 in the front room to stream the shows from the server to the TV. A PS3 isn't necessary, there are plenty of other things that can do this, but the option to watch Blu-Ray discs is always nice.

It beats me that HUKD can vote this PC up to 60 degrees, and yet nobody fancied this Dabs refurb:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/31009...=310092&page=2

which I bought 3 days ago. As well and being a Vista Media Centre machine, I am able to play low-settings Crysis output via HDMI to my plasma. All for £160.

at that level might as well build your own no?,
seems a tad pricey considering older mb chipset, no TV facility and no OS, plus looks a large shiny box so prob won't pass the WAF test,
also it's surprising especially if you use any tv or pvr facilities how fast you can fill 500Gb

Still like my Scaleo E, but this seems to have an extra PCI express slot, and a motherboard that's easier to swap out, plus DDR2/Pentium D support

hot
