Get the Guardian/Observer for £140 a year (33%) less than cover price

If you want to save money on your Guardian and Observer newspapers, then you've come to the right place. With the increased prices starting yesterday, the Guardian and the Observer together now cost £8.10 pw, but thanks to the all-new Guardian and Observer Subscriber scheme, you can now get your newspaper of choice for up to a third less than the normal cover price.
How does the scheme work?
Sign up to the scheme and we'll send you a book of vouchers which can be handed in wherever you normally buy your paper. If you have your newspaper delivered, just hand all the vouchers to your newsagent and they'll sort everything out for you. You can subscribe on a monthly, quarterly, six month or annual basis.
What packages are available?
You can sign up to three different tiers of subscription:
Seven-day Guardian and Observer package
Six-day Guardian package (Monday Saturday)
A weekend Guardian Saturday and Sunday Observer package
You can subscribe on a monthly, quarterly, six-month or annual basis. Weekly price for both the Guardian and the Observer shown.

This is a poor deal - it'd be cheaper to buy Andrex in bulk in Tesco - it's softer, more absorbent, doesn't get ink on your nether regions and it doesn't unravel in a leftward spin like the Grauniturd/Absurder does...
 P.S. True to from, the deal is somewhat deceptive - the minimum subscription period is one month, payable only by direct debit, so the deal for the Grauniturd/Absurder package is really a minimum of £23.40 by direct debit or, if you want to pay by credit card (who'd want to let yet another bunch of lefties pick their pockets whenever they please?) then the minimum subscription period is one year at £280.80. I suspect you'd have to be a pretty committed Grauniturd/Absurder reader to save much from this deal vs. the flexibility of the pay as you go cover price, when you take into consideration holidays and other times when you might not pick up your subscription copy. Try being a little less twitchy and a little less critical! Maybe instead of making rather silly and very hackneyed Grauniturd/Absurder jibes you should go quietly back to your Daily Mail or whatever other Tory-slanted paper you choose to read. |

My analysis of why this deal isn't such a good deal (even for dyed-in-the-wool, blinkers on, rose-tinted spectacle wearing Guardian readers) is perfectly valid - you exchange the flexibility of paying as you go for buying every edition in advance for a not so big discount. Not such a great deal, even if you like The Guardian, once you do the maths. I'd say exactly the same about the Telegraph's similar subscription offer. P.S. The other deal, from which you quoted my earlier comment, was indeed a genuinely good deal (unlike this one) which was being voted cold by those who don't appreciate relatively expensive quality goods even when they're heavily discounted. Quite different from this deal! |

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear - seems my attempts at a little Monday morning repartee have caused offense with those earnest enough to read The Guardian. I'm so sorry. I suppose I should have just been quietly thankful that at least we can choose whether or not to buy the newspaper version of The Guardian, unlike the broadcast wing, trading under the name of BBC News, which every TV owning household is compelled by law to subscribe to!
