O2 Mobile Broadband (3G & Wi-Fi) Pay & Go USB Dongle £29.35

£29.35

FOUND BY: HotBot 10 months, 5 days ago

Seems to be a good price for the USB dongle as most seem more expensive. The pay as you go tariffs seem not too bad considering you get un-limited free Wi-Fi access thrown in!

O2 USB 3G Modem 160E on Pay & Go
PC & Mac compatible
Plug & Play installation
Connection speeds up to 3.6Mbps

After the initial purchase price of the USB modem the costs are as follows:

Daily 500MB + unlimited Wi-Fi £2 per day
Weekly 1GB + unlimited Wi-Fi £7.50 per week
Monthly 3GB + unlimited Wi-Fi £15 per month

But for those interested - don't forget Quidco

24 month contract for 3gb - £150

18 month contract for 3gb - £100

As always the offers differ enough for comparisons to be difficult, and they seem to meet different needs.

As I understand the Voda is £39 (less £10 quidco opportunity) including 1GB of data (no time limit, or perhaps over 12m, ie not day/wk/month) and then £15 per further 1GB = lot more expensive IF you need the data and no WiFi, but cheaper if you just wanted an occasional usage/backup...

Depends on your network coverage and usage I would say.

From what I have read, the Vodafone one doesn't have an expiry on the data allowance you buy so for an occasional user it would probably be better.

The £15 option for 3GB and unlimited wi-fi on the Ow would be great for someone who uses it a fair bit and is comparable to some contracts which cost the same.

Prices seem not too bad to me? Vodafone charge £15 for 1GB with no free Wi-Fi access! With O2 you get 3GB and all the Wi-Fi access you can find!

Why should the latency be any worse than other providers?

Never said it was any worse than the other providers. I just said in essence that it is too dear and the latency is terrible.

What do you do with wifi access that does not affect Bandwidth allowance though ?

Check before buying to use iPhone sims in it. I heard Voda PAYG dongles are locked to PAYG sims only. Prob be ok but would be good if someone could confirm it works with a Pay Monthly Sim.

The Free Wi-Fi at thousands of hot-spots is free! It does not affect your 3G data allowance (just as on a iPhone contact).

Why do you need a dongle to get free wi-fi
Can't a laptop just connect wirelessly anyway?

Suppose I get the Pay & Go dongle for £29.35. That comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot account right, but does anyone know if this account expires?
E.g. I buy the dongle but do not load it with the daily/weekly/monthly packages, will I still continue to have access to Wi-Fi hotspots?

If so, that sounds like a good deal to me. £30 for unlimited wi-fi access until (forever??)..

plus the possibility to pay £2 and get access for a day anywhere else..
