Retro-tastic! Re-Release of the ORIGINAL 'Now thats what I call music 1' on CD £11.98 @ Amazon

£11.98

53°

FOUND BY: niknak 10 months, 6 days ago

It's only taken 26 years but they've finally re-released the original NOW 1 on cd (special collectors edition).

If only they'd do Now 6 on CD too as my tape 2 wound in on my dad's car tape player in 1985!

Seems a lot more expensive than it was then (though I suspect in 'real' terms it's probably more affordable now).

awesome, I have 'tape 1' of the original somewhere, I think my sister has tape 2. Good memories of dancing about to this as a nipper!

Yeah my cousin had the first 30 odd Nows on LP & CD. They were great when they just released a couple a year as you had the best songs on the previous 6 months. Now they just churn them out every 2 months it seems and they're packed with dross!

Now 6 or Now 10 were my favs!

This was my first album - my mum bought it for me for christmas with my first record player (along with a Barry Manilow record - but we won't go down that road!!).

I still have it and it's great condition!

This is a great album. I have the original 12" Double album in my collection. The first one I ever brought for myself with my pocket money was Now 32 when I was 13 I think?

The idea of having Now 1 is the collectability of the edition. These tracks can be had for £2.99ish on a budget label now, so £12 is a rip-off imo
Plus it will never be worth nowt as it isn't the original. Dunno why anyone would buy this tbh

I just thought this would be an ideal present for someone you knew was a child in the 80s - this would bring back great memories and prove you'd put some thought into the gift. Or if you remember the original fondly and can't be bothered to dig out your gramophone to play the LP having them on CD in the same original style packaging might just bring a smile to your face.

Yes you could get the tracks cheaper but it's not just about that is it? Does everything HAVE to be a bargain that can be sold for more on ebay these days?!!! Isn't it worth that little bit extra to remind you of better times (like the early 80s with its miners strikes and Falkland wars...!).

You are right, it's more a novelty item than anything else. It isn't collectable, not really. This will sell in six figures. It's not a great album in it's own right, most of the tracks are a bit kack really.
So, you are left with a retro-reprint worth £5.99 that is being sold at 200% of that price tag.
I'd buy it for it's nostalgia value alone at £5.99. But definately not at this price. jmo

I agree it's not really a 'collectors' item (Now's description, not mine). And yes some tracks are quite kack (mostly disc 2!) and if it was a fiver cheaper they'd sell twice as many I'm sure but I just posted up here as it brought a smile to my face when I saw it. Just hope it brought back good memories to a few other folk today too...

What's your fav Now? 10 edges 6 for me...

Yeah, 10 is the better album just for 'Pump Up The Volume'. And the better album all told.
I still remember having my ears blasted by MARRS, Ten City and The Pasadenas in Sgt Peppers on the Veronicas lol
