EXPIRED - Linksys PLK200-UK Wall Socket PowerLine AV Ethernet Adapter Kit (Twin Pack) £49.44 @ Scan + post&p

£49.44

FOUND BY: sly200sx 1 year, 2 weeks ago

Have gone up over a quid, still a good price tho!
For those who missed out on the cheap Zyxel ones.
Misco have them for £155!!!!

The Linksys PLK200 PowerLine AV Ethernet Starter Kit lets you turn the existing powerlines in your home or office into a high-speed network. Now you don't have to drill through the walls and climb through the attic or cellar to install network cables -- just use the wires that already run through the building!

The Linksys PLK200 PowerLine AV Adapter interfaces Ethernet devices to the HomePlug AV PowerLine network standard. Just plug the PowerLine AV Adapter into the wall, and connect your Ethernet-equipped device to the Adapter using the included network cable, and you've turned your whole house into network infrastructure! Attach more computers to the network by simply plugging them into the wall anywhere in the house, using more PowerLine AV Adapters.

Once your computers are connected to the network, they can share resources like printers and storage space, and all kinds of files -- music, digital pictures, and documents. With up to 100Mbps data rates, you can play lag-free head-to-head network computer games, and run media-centric applications like streaming video and Voice over IP telephony. And if you use a PowerLine AV Ethernet Adapter to interface one of the famous Linksys Broadband Routers from your cable or DSL Internet connection to your PowerLine AV network, you'll be able to get to the Internet from any computer in the house.

The Linksys PLK200 PowerLine AV Ethernet Starter Kit is the perfect solution for high-speed, "no new wires", home or office networking.

Use your home or office's existing powerlines to network your computers
Bridges 10/100 Ethernet and powerline networking
Data rates up to 200Mbps 128-bit encryption keeps your data secure
Share files, printers, network storage, and gaming throughout your home connect it to a router to share your cable or DSL Internet connection

I have them all over my house and had great results. I have the Zyxel AV router with 2 Zyxel AV homeplugs. I also run a pair of the turbo (85mbs) ones too...

Good deal.

Are these compatible with the zyxel pla401 200mbps av homeplugs? I take it that any with "compliant with HomePlug AV specification 1.1" means they are compatible...

EDIT: You get free delivery with AV Forums I think as well...

£56.33 with shipping so unless you can get free shipping (do they still do free shipping for AVforum members) then Amazon is cheaper at £51.16 shipped.

The entry on Amazon is a Marketplace Seller at that price, the one available directly from Amazon for £55ish ships in 1-2 months :-) I think i'd rather go with Scan.

Well I've been umming and arring as I'd like to dload large files (i.e. 7-12gb every now and again). The alternative is running an ethernet cable out of and then back into the house. Seems messy, but cost effective. Decisions decisions?!

Thanks for the useful comments so far, and good post.

They should be compatible, although from experience I always try to stick to one manufacturer for routers, adapters and other network components. This is an excellent brand, you can easily pay more thank this for one.

Homeplug hardware very rarely works properly with other devices at the moment. it *should* work fine, but in the experience of most (just google) - its never the case!

The joy of being an 'early' adopter, i guess.

Does it work if they're plugged into a four-way gang socket which is plugged into the wall?

(Also, the mains sockets are supposed to be on a single ring, right?)

You need a modem router (for BT-line type broadband) or a cable router (for cable type...doh!) with a spare ethernet port on it and two powerline plugs, OR a single powerline plug and a powerline-enable router.

Mind you, if you just want to connect your pc to your router and your router is wireless, just get a wireless PCI card for your PC.

These powerline sockets and router are excellent. We've got everything hidden away under the stairs thanks to these (a Zyxel 200mbps router and Zyxel 200mbps Powerline plugs in use), plus a Belkin network USB server to deal with all of the usb hardware, such as HP multifunction printers and various old external USB drives. Coupled with two good deals on 1TB MyBook drives (NAS and USB) and our previous HP MediaVault, we are sorted!! Xbox360 running wirelessly as well and Zyxel streamer feeding the TV.

Anyone want loads of old tangled ethernet cables?

I've been using some of the Solwise 85Mbps and can highly recommend both the concept and branding of those. Have used alternative Linksys gear in the past and that's always been high quality.
The only thing I'd comment on the different speeds is that for high rate transfers (backing up images or high resolution media streaming to consoles) the 85Mbps don't quite cut it and the 200Mbps would be better. That said at the price of these they seem to be what I paid about 12 months ago, so a bargain really to get around what some people could be finding with slower wireless and with intermittent connections.

Doesn't apply to me but checked some of the manufacturers forums and while some people get limited success by using these on different ring mains in a house, the majority strongly recommend being on the same one. A quick look in the house fuse box should tell you that you have a common circuit on the electrical sockets, or not.
