Well I've been umming and arring as I'd like to dload large files (i.e. 7-12gb every now and again). The alternative is running an ethernet cable out of and then back into the house. Seems messy, but cost effective. Decisions decisions?!

I use these exact ones, they work *perfectly*. Never have had a problem, perfect speed 24/7. Couldn't recommend higher

You need a modem router (for BT-line type broadband) or a cable router (for cable type...doh!) with a spare ethernet port on it and two powerline plugs, OR a single powerline plug and a powerline-enable router.
Mind you, if you just want to connect your pc to your router and your router is wireless, just get a wireless PCI card for your PC. These powerline sockets and router are excellent. We've got everything hidden away under the stairs thanks to these (a Zyxel 200mbps router and Zyxel 200mbps Powerline plugs in use), plus a Belkin network USB server to deal with all of the usb hardware, such as HP multifunction printers and various old external USB drives. Coupled with two good deals on 1TB MyBook drives (NAS and USB) and our previous HP MediaVault, we are sorted!! Xbox360 running wirelessly as well and Zyxel streamer feeding the TV. Anyone want loads of old tangled ethernet cables?  |
