Becky, don't think you could get a macbook pro that cheap .. The one sold by PCWorld must be the the old macbook 13" one. As suggested, check the Apple refurb site and you could get the Macbook Pro around 1 grand.. surely, he'll be more interested on the newer Core 2 Duo processor though. The cheapest is to book a flight to New York and get himself from the store there .. ;)

Does this person know anyone who works for a school? member of the family or friend, I got the New Macbook White 13" for £925 including 3 year warranty, a 1gb upgrade and Pages/keynote software.

£699 is awfully cheap the cheap are you sure thats the Macbook, sounds like the ibook, unless there having trouble shifting them, beware some of the earlier stock had major issues with the battery (mine was at Apple for 10 weeks) I gave up ordered a new one and got my money back from them

The previous basic MacBook 1.83Ghz Core Duo can still be bought at Curry's, where it is selling for £699.99. Using one of the xmas codes, the XMAS60 one applies here, you can get £60 off that price + free delivery. Then Quidco also...

Personally I would buy one of the newer Core 2 Duo MacBooks, and one of the 2.0Ghz models. You get larger hard drive, more RAM, bigger L2 cache and a Superdrive (DVD writer).

However the one at Curry's is a pretty good deal if your colleague was just going for the new 1.83Ghz model, as the C2D processor is the only change on that model. The difference in speed will be marginal, at least until the launch of Leopard (OS X 10.5) in spring. When the 64-bit processor will be utilised by the OS.

Actually the speed gains are significant right now, 64bit is only going to assist with addressing larger gobs of memory, something that will only affect professional MacPro users at the mo.

There's an approx £150 difference between HE and retail.
