Personally I would buy one of the newer Core 2 Duo MacBooks, and one of the 2.0Ghz models. You get larger hard drive, more RAM, bigger L2 cache and a Superdrive (DVD writer).
However the one at Curry's is a pretty good deal if your colleague was just going for the new 1.83Ghz model, as the C2D processor is the only change on that model. The difference in speed will be marginal, at least until the launch of
Leopard (OS X 10.5) in spring. When the 64-bit processor will be utilised by the OS.
