Far from a deal.. this is a RIP OFF!
Tying people in to more contracts instead of just offering the deal to KEEP customers

This seems to be just a competitive option to counter them feeling threatened by Tiscali and their all-in one offers.
There are other ways of getting free or ULTRA low cost calls WITHOUT those tie-ins - the basic BT setup gives free weekend ones already, so it is just daytime and evening calls (plus mobile) that cost extra money anyway. OK, I accept that opting for BT all-inclusive deals is easy, and requires no extra effort when making calls, deciding who or what to use, but as a result it offers no real savings compared to just having the basic line only, and using other services than BT for most calls
Full guidance on getting cheap calls is on
www.moneysavingexpert.com and I won't bog things down with too much detail, as some people wont' have a clue what I am talking about, and as it is all in there, I am not going to waste time effort and space repeating it all; but companies like Call18866.com and 18185 mean you can talk
very cheap, and you would have to do an
astronomical amount of calling to spend over 50 quid (the cost of this BT deal) on UK calls over the year using the cheapest options!
OK this is not the biggest saving around, but you are also not tied into a contract, and that means you can change if a cheaper option does come up, or if you need to change ISP!
BUT.... [IGNORE this if you are not a
very serious money-saver]:
For those keen of the very lowest ultra-cheap option, for the real bargain hunter, VOIP is the way to go - especially if you are tied down to having the PC on most of the day anyway!
www.voipcheap.co.uk requires just a 10 Euro top up every 3 months for 300 minutes of free calls per week, then the 10 Euros credit is still there to use up a the end of that time to use, so a 10 Euro top up lasts me about 4 or 4.5 months on average! I suppose I have spent barely no more than say25 Euros over the past year for
all the calls I make. it has the benefit of leaving the landline clear, so you can still receive incoming calls too without paying extra for caller-waiting! Cheaper than BT for making mobile calls too, but then again using a mobile phone with Asda PAYG is also pretty cheap for making calls to mobiles too, unless you need huge amounts of minutes with a bigger contract.
A PC with sound and a microphone will do or there are more fancy arrangements you can use if that is what you want.
For international calling, there is even bigger saving potential, but that's another issue!
