Alliance & Leicester Current Accounts- 6% interest on a current account!!! plus £50 quidco & £100 to switch over

83°

FOUND BY: o BLACK TIGER o 9 months, 3 days ago

6% interest rate on a current account seems pretty good at this time, and you get £50 quidco! was doing a comparison and A&L beats everyone!
The premier 21 account seems great for a teenager, has 6% aer, but the bad thing is:
Earn 6.00% AER (fixed for one year) on balances up to £1,000. After one year the rate goes back to Bank of England base rate less 1%. Balances over £1,000 earn 0.10% AER (variable).

What a con! They're currently only paying 0.80% on their cash ISAs.

You have to keep an eye on the rates

Some quite good accounts here (for the under 20s and over 50s)
Worth a look

Yes they are part of santander but operate on a totally seperate banking license to Abbey so no you cannot do anything in an Abbey Branch for an A&L account.

Bradford & Bingley savings are also part of Santander and can be managed via abbey branches http://www.abbeyatbradfordandbingley.co.uk/

This current account isnt great for anyone who has a salary of over £1000 as you only get 0.1% interest on anything over £1000 hence depending on individual circumstances current accounts like Coventry Building Society can be better

Are CURRENT accounts paying more than savings now and if so how come?

Would you put, say, £30k in a savings account? Is it still as safe?

The UK Government guarantee up to £50k now so you should be safe

Re current accounts, you normally have to pay "x" amount in monthly to qualify for the rates and there are lots of other t's and c's too, such as a ceiling on deposits etc. Well worth checking the small print - if you go overdrawn regularly they'll give you no interest and probably rip your ears off in fees

Its good for the first year but don't expect to get any worthwhile interest beyond year 1 for either a current account or any savings accounts

The Post Office is still tied in with Alliance & Leicester and for most things you can do in a A & L branch you can also do in a Post Office. You just have longer queues :-)
