Features for Samsung LE46A786R2
Freeview
The simple way to receive over 30 free digital TV channels, radio stations and interactive services, all through your existing TV aerial.

DVD
Officially known as the Digital Video Disc, though marketers unofficially refer to it as the Digital Versatile Disc. DVD uses a 5-inch disc with anywhere from 4.5 Gb (single layer, single-sided) to 17 Gb storage capacity (double-layer, double sided). It uses MPEG2 compression to encode 720:480p resolution, full-motion video and Dolby Digital to encode 5.1 channels of discrete audio. The disc can also contain PCM, DTS, and MPEG audio soundtracks and numerous other features. An audio-only version, DVD-A uses MLP to encode six channels of 24-bit/96-kHz audio.

DVI
Digital Visual Interface. Connection standard developed by Intel for connecting computers to digital monitors such as flat panels and DLP projectors. A consumer electronics version, not necessarily compatible with the PC version, is used as a connection standard for HDTV tuners and displays. Transmits an uncompressed digital signal to the display. The latter version uses HDCP copy protection to prevent unauthorized copying. See also HDMI.

HDMI
High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)

USB
Stands for Universal Serial Bus. USB is the most common type of computer port used in today's computers. It can be used to connect keyboards, mice, game controllers, printers, scanners, digital cameras, and removable media drives, just to name a few. With the help of a few USB hubs, you can connect up to 127 peripherals to a single USB port and use them all at once (though that would require quite a bit of dexterity).

HDTV
High-Definition Television. The high-resolution subset of our DTV system. The FCC has no official definition for HDTV. The ATSC defines HDTV as a 16:9 image with twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of our existing system, accompanied by 5.1 channels of Dolby Digital audio. The CEA defines HDTV as an image with 720 progressive or 1080 interlaced active (top to bottom) scan lines. 1280:720p and 1920:1080i are typically accepted as high-definition scan rates.

That's the Dynamic Contrast ratio. The Native/Static ratio is 20,000:1. The dynamic range does improve the contrast ratio brilliantly but is not as good as a higher rated native contrast ratio. So, a good quality Panasonic with a Native Contrast Ratio of 60,000:1 will be better than this model, but at the same time this model could be better than another TV that has a native contrast ratio of 30,000:1.

Nothing totally definite but as definate as you're going to get.

On here the phrase 'why cold?' translates as 'please vote cold' from what I've seen.

Picture quality on these LED TV's, especially Samsung, is amazing. Saw one at Costco and it was way better than any of the plasmas, including a Panasonic and a Pioneer.
Haven't checked the price anywhere so don't know if it's a good deal but have voted hot because it's a good TV with a good picture, better than the Plasma deals we're used to seeing.

Just listen to the clock ticking down while someone gets ready to reply with "they set the screens up in these store to make the plasmas look worse so they can shift lcds" or some other such drivel.

good price for this model and free bluray player = good deal in my book, I havent a clue if plasmas are better than lcds, but when I need to find out I will compare them side by side in stores and read AV forums, I'll stick to coming here deals and offer info.

When I was looking for a TV about 12 months ago the general guide was anything above 42 then plasma is the best option, especially if viewing standard definition feed. My samsung plasma is fantastic...I've got friends who have bought more expensive LCD TVs and have been really disappointed with standard def pictures. I'm sure LCDs have improved over the last 12 months but I'm not sure they've improved that much with standard def feeds.

Has no one actually noticed the most significant part of this deal: LED backlit - what this means is that it will save you money on energy charges and also the backlight will last a very long time.

Oh and the Blu-ray player seems to be cool too :-)

Hot from me.

Sorry the point i was trying to make is that the plasma lcd debate should rage elswhere and here we should be looking at wether someone has found the best priace for a product, if it's one your interested in then bonus and a deal is really hot when it tempts you buy because as my old mum always says "you couldn't leave it there at hat price.

I am looing into the new telly thing and when i can convince the missus that size is important and it's time to move on to a new model (in the tv world at least.) I have been very impressed by Samsung and find it confusing that they are so maligned on these pages and it seems wierd that the plasma v lcd comes up on samsung sets and not when sony lcds are listed.

it;s good to see j_o_h_n actually complement samsung either plasma or lcd.
