£75 discount on the DSA backed PassPlus course for young drivers

£70.00

84°

FOUND BY: gileswendes@hotm 8 months, 3 weeks ago

Available for people that have passed their driving practical test within the last twelve months the PassPlus course is offered to improve the skills of just-passed drivers. I'm taking my test shortly and found this available from my local council for young drivers 17-24 in an attempt to reduce accidents.

The course is 6 hours and should reduce insurance premiums by more than the cost to the driver - this obviously depends!

£75 off when booking through their panel of instructors - total cost should be around £65-80

Completely agree with the above comments. At any rate it's 6 hours of tutition including things like motorway driving which this insane country doesn't allow you to learn from a professional any other way. At £75 for 6 hours it's only £12.50 hour for an expert to show you how... if only you could get a taxi at those prices!

Pass plus seems like nothing more than another way to squeeze a little extra money out of new drivers. Playing on their apprehensions and lack of confidence about being on the roads by themselves for the first time + the illusion that this will drastically reduce their insurance. As if the months of driving lessons and the tests weren't expensive enough!. The best way to build up confidence is just to go out on your own and get used to it. If you've managed to pass the current driving test (which is damn strict) then I say you'll be fine. This is all just my opinion of course .

I done Pass Plus about 8 years ago, just through my then driving instructor, and didn't actually find it too much different to other lessons, except the motorway part.

They say driving in different weather conditions etc, but how do you know when it will rain lol, and surely people have had to do this in normal lessons, and night driving, etc.

That said though, i found it worthwhile, as it DID reduce my premium when applying for insurance, and sometimes the with or without quotes, were significantly cheaper!

So, i don't know how much extra knowledge i gained from course, but as far as insurance purposes went, it DID help me!

All depends on the driver - some are over confident and some are not confident enough. There's no real way to 'ease' yourself into motorway driving - I still think it's insane that we can't learn motorway driving on the road in the UK. One day you can't drive on your own at all, let alone in adverse conditions (tests are cancelled due to heavy rain, snow and strong winds) - the next you can drive at high speed on ice... without any skills having been learn in between! Madness!

It's available with discount - that doesn't mean it's a good idea for everyone... it does, IMHO, make it a HOT deal!

Nice deal, when I lived in Manchester it would have set me back £200+. When I moved to Wales however I found the course was just £20! For a 3 hour theory session, and a 6 hour day drive. After I'd done it I found I could have even got it for free if I'd applied to my local council, I felt so cheated

just check car insurance for the last couple of days, Tesco give up to 40% discount, depend on age. My husband is 28 and he's got 40% discount. Other company, ie: Churhill, direct line only give 5%.
