http://hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352829 For actual students, this is a better deal as it's Vista Ultimate (It's not an upgrade copy either, if that makes a difference to anyone), however for family members this is a very good deal.. Business doesn't come with Media Center, but that's not too much of a problem...

It doesn't seem that long ago I bought an extra 1mb of ram for £30 to run Autoroute in WFW 3.11. Hang on, it was last year. I need a new PC (and I need to find a cheaper memory supplier!)

Probably worth it if you've got a cheapo laptop with Vista Basic I would have thought.

Incidentally, I've used software4students to get office and the disc arrived within a week - no box or manual, just the disc, not that I was bothered about a manual.

I mentioned this recently on the student offer thread (albeit regarding Vista Ultimate) but didn't get much response, maybe I should have put it in it's own thread and not been so lazy!

not worth the money windows 7 is due out in 6 months so would wait and the real killer for me is no chance of the 64 bit version so useless if you have over 3gb of ram

I know I am being a miserable troll, but some people may not realise how easy it is to try out Ubuntu Linux.

Its a free download, and can be run off a CD or DVD without touching your hard disc drive, or it can installed as an application within windows (allowing easy removal if wanted).

Why bother? ITS FREE. (And Legal)

Also its quick, making a 3 year old computer seem like new again.
No virus problems.
No illegal licences required.
No microsoft tax.
Loads of great programs starting with Firefox and OpenOffice.

The only problem is that, like rabies, once bitten, you want to pass it on. (hence this post)

Are you kidding me? You'd use a Beta OS above the current Vista?

Sure Vista had it's problems in the early stages but it's a decent OS now and almost certainly far more stable than any microsoft beta OS.....
