EXPIRED - Lenovo S10e Linux Netbook - 160GB HD, 1.5GB RAM, 6 Cell Batt. Was £379.50

£259.00

This is a huge discount on the highest spec Lenovo S10e netbook available. According to reviews the Lenovo S10e is a very well-designed, small and rugged netbook but many were let down by the 3-cell battery.

However this version comes with a 6-cell battery as well as 1.5GB(!) of RAM, an ExpressCard slot and bluetooth. Great specs for the price.

- Intel ATOM Processor N270 Single Core ( 1.60GHz 533MHz 512KB )
- SUSE Linux Enterprise 10
- Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
- 1.5 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz
- 10.1 " WSVGA Glossy TFT with integrated camera 1024x576
- 160GB 5400 Hard Disk
- +6 Cell Lithium-Ion
- Broadcom 11b/g Wi-Fi wireless
- Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR

looks like it will be fine

if you see the link the laptop on the far right hand side is exactly identical to this one but £40 more.

The only difference is the far right hand side one has XP installed
so you end up paying £40 more for XP preinstalled.

But the one at Dabs is 30 quid more, only has 1GB of RAM and most importantly it only has a 3-cell battery.

The one direct from Lenovo is only £259 with 1.5GB RAM and has the coveted 6-cell battery included! As for XP, well you can install it yourself without too much trouble...

It is a shame it's in white - if it was black I'd buy one straight away. But I figure that there's people on here who would probably prefer white to black anyway.

Excellent price, extra memory means I can try to install Windows 7 on it!

Good spot, heat added!

It might be able to handle Vista, but you'd be best sticking with XP. Besides the fact that XP is a more basic OS and much better suited to low-power CPUs and systems without much RAM, visually, it's a good deal tigter, too. Window borders are smaller, icons are smaller, task bar entries are smaller, that sort of thing. It's less pretty, but you get a lot more space onscreen for apps rather than for OS, and although you can tweak Vista to be as space-efficient as XP, it's still going to run slower.

Installing XP on these netbook is easy as well, as long as you know where to download the XP drivers from the manufacturer's site.

installing xp

drivers

ofcourse make sure to use a genuine copy of windows.

Beware. There have been grumblings about the version of Linux that this netbook comes installed with. However, it's not a problem as Ubuntu should work just fine with it.

I wonder if the RAM can be upgraded any more? I'd like 2gb in one.

Yeah first thing I'd do is install Ubuntu.

Apparently there is 512MB hardwired onto the motherboard and an additional slot. So you could install a cheap 2GB RAM stick and have a total of 2.5GB!
