This is a fairly good price for UK stock cameras although I have seen it cheaper before and there are some grey imports that cloud the issue and might cause people to think it should be a lot cheaper.

at that price maybe youd be tempted to buy an easy to use dslr rather than a bridge camera - but each to their own, maybe consider the other bridge camaras with a x12 telescopic instead of 5x. It also seems the high MP count makes the camera suffer with noise.

Personally I find a DSLR too much of a lump to lug around for general touristy stuff. If I am going out specifically to take photos then I will want a DSLR but when it's a secondary thing then I want convenience and these are also built like a tank. A zoom lens is always a compromise whatever the range, but the longer the zoom the more of an optical compromise it becomes, and addtionally even with image stabilisation handholding a 12x zoom in lower light is not very practical.

It's also true about noise with more densely packed sensors, on these Powershots they do suffer at higher ISO, but on the G9 and G10 the noise is very well controlled at lower ISO.
I think there is a place for these. Not sure the G10 is a huge improvement over G9 but good stuff.

I bought this 4 days ago from Amazon and have not been able to put it down since getting it.

Its proving to be a great replacement for my old bridge camera, the Powershot S50, and will be easy to use for any D/SLR user.

Some of the higher ISOs have a noticeable amount of noise and the viewfinder is next to useless, but everything else is spot on. The build quality is fantasic, the body is made from aluminium, the controls are easy and intuitive and the size, which is important for a bridge camera, is perfect. It isn't too small and fiddly, but then again it isn't too large and cumbersom to carry around.

crazy high price.

small bridge camera sensor, so you might as well buy a £ 100 panasonic lumix, all the same image quality, for less than 1/3 of the price.

i can see no reason why this costs that much.

when you can buy a sony A200 for under £ 250 , the price of this canon bridge camera is a joke at best.

you can also buy small dslrs now like the pentax km etc, with smaller + lighter lenses which are easy to carry, have proper viewfinders and larger sensor as person above me stated. They are much faster also

The G10 has more flexibility (inc shooting in RAW) than a £100 brdige camera and spot on image quality - more so than a £100 compact. And it's smaller than a DSLR and lens, although I accept not quite as flexible. I don't want a DSLR, I already have one. I want a good quality compact with all the flexbility and build quality of a DSLR. To that end, the Canon (imho) is still the camera to beat.

i have fuji s9600 finepix digital camera i cant really fault it , taken photos ion holiday indonesia & malaysia my only issues are the size its ok when on holiday as you got camera equipment with you however for everyday snaps i find its to much hasstle lugging it around and cannon g10 is more practical and i dont think i will be comprommising on quality
my only issue is the price im going to hold off till it gets to around £275
