Raspberrys:
I could be wrong but I'm thinking that Python would have been shooting on to film and that there is a slight difference in the frame rate between the US and UK which means that the run time is slightly quicker or slower (can't remember which); this could account for the difference. This wouldn't AFAIK apply to recording onto video so modern programmes should be the same if the edit is the same. As I say I could well be wrong there; perhaps someone more knowledgeable could enlighten us.
I've dug a bit further and the timings of the US set includes some extras.
However, the US shows have timings of more than 30 minutes - so I can only think that there must be few extra bits that were given to to the US to help them edit the whole thing down to their necessary programme length, which can be as short as 22 minutes for a half-hour show.
I'm tempted to buy this just to compare the two but that is so train-spottingly sad that I'm too ashamed even to think of it
