DVD Description
The Flying Circus is where Monty Python started - 4 series of TV shows aired between 1969 and 1974 in the UK. Dubbed "The Fathers of Modern British Comedy", it was seen as the start of a new generation of TV comedy when it hit the mainstream and was certainly seen as controversial in its day. Topical issues were included but silliness was the main theme, and seeing the "everyday" portrayed at a tangent was the order of the day. The team's (Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin) classical education also is reflected in some of the more esoteric pieces. Now with a huge cult following, the Flying Circus appeals to both young and not-so-young.

Synopsis
This collector's set contains every single episode of the sketch comedy genius that was showcased on Monty Python's Flying Circus. Watch the cult British comedians, who have inspired obsessive fandom on the international level, for over 22 hours! For the Python fan, this comprehensive box set is an incredible opportunity to own what is arguably the most innovative, brilliant sketch comedy ever performed.

Hot price - I loved MPFC when they were first broadcast - I'm not sure I would find time to watch all 4 seasons again. The 6dvd movie boxset is great value though.

I've got the American "16 Ton Megaset" and the difference in timings is about 100 minutes, which suggests something is missing.

Anyway, enough of these questions. I thought that this was a deals forum - I didn't expect some kind of Spanish Inquisition.

I could be wrong but I'm thinking that Python would have been shooting on to film and that there is a slight difference in the frame rate between the US and UK which means that the run time is slightly quicker or slower (can't remember which); this could account for the difference. This wouldn't AFAIK apply to recording onto video so modern programmes should be the same if the edit is the same. As I say I could well be wrong there; perhaps someone more knowledgeable could enlighten us.

I've dug a bit further and the timings of the US set includes some extras.

However, the US shows have timings of more than 30 minutes - so I can only think that there must be few extra bits that were given to to the US to help them edit the whole thing down to their necessary programme length, which can be as short as 22 minutes for a half-hour show.

I'm tempted to buy this just to compare the two but that is so train-spottingly sad that I'm too ashamed even to think of it
