Potentially save money on on-peak commuter trains with Railcards

FOUND BY: distilledchill 8 months, 1 week ago

I ocasionally travel to/from London from St Albans - not often enough to warrant a weekly card or whatever. However, when I do, I travel at peak times.

At the moment, the return ticket is £16 for an anytime day saver. However, I can buy an anytime day single in the morning for £8 (using my railcard) and £6.15 in the evening (again, with railcard). This means I save £1.85 every day I travel to / from London.

OK, its not going to set the world alight, but at least it might save people a few pennies for the weekend.

FYI - before 10AM, railcards are minimum fair £8 but no restrictions after that. The tickets are both anytime tickets - so it saves me money - even more if I work a lot of hours!

Thanks, this could also apply to other Railcard users, not just the 16-25/Student railcard.

I thought tickets bought with a railcard were subject to a minimum fare of £ 10.-? Unless things have changed ...?
