50mb broadband, unlimited 24/7 landline calls & cable tv for £42.95 a month(Virgin media)

£42.95

FOUND BY: cammeyz 7 months, 4 weeks ago

Was checking out the virgin media cos im feeling a little ripped off paying £86 a month for the vip package, which was good 2 years ago but now aint very appealing, stumbled across this bundle, have to click it yourself in the "build your own bundle" page, but i thought it looked pretty decent for the price, especially since the 50mb is £50 on its own, has to be taken as a 12 month contract too tho.

Have to choose XXL broadband, medium tv & XL phone for that price.

yeah but then its extra for V+, extra for the second box, extra for sports, extra for movies....

VIP is actually still good value and for some reason mine is only ever £80 a month...

Note: £11 Line rental needs to be added. Not bad though.

One thing, it's not £42.95 a month. It's £53.95 a month as you MUST pay £11 a month extra for a virgin phone line. Which is getting expensive and I'm not exactly sure how they can sell you a phone service, on their cable network, and not take their phone line...

There's also a one off £80 fee which breaks down as £30 for installation and £50 for activating the 50Mb broadband.

TBH im on the 20meg service and i notice hardly any diff from when i was on the 10meg. How much of a diff is 50 gonna make? Add to that fact that the 50 is only available in limited areas of the country atm. IMO i couldnt justify spending all that much cash on the extra when i wouldnt really see the benefits. A vastly overpriced service for the average home user if you ask me. Im happy paying £28 a month for 20meg, 24/7 phone and cable tv - the extra £25 for a service that is heavily capped is not worth it !

I am always capped on 20meg...Do a film goes down to 5 meg do another again 5 meg...50mg is fair usage as well so that will be capped all the time as well. Price is ok but why do you need it so fast for "normal" usage.

All depends on what your doing I suppose, of course navigating sites you wouldn't notice a difference, if your speaking about download speeds then that depends on the server your getting the file off, of course it doesn;t matter what speed your connection is, if the server your connected to is busy/slow.

I like havign a decent connection as I download with Usenet so that can handle pretty much max speeds for any connection.

Virgin Media only cap at certain times of the day. I have never been capped with them, and regularly get 1Mbps on torrents, (with a private tracker though so everyone is forced to seed).
Have to say though, there is zero point getting a high broadband speed if it is not going to be used. This is only good if you are a heavy downloader, at best.

Also, has anyone noticed that they have upped everyone on 2MB to 10MB for free, and yet they are upping the cost of 2MB BB? got the letter through today about it.

oops, didnt spot the £11 phone line rental at the bottom sorry. Deal doesnt look as appealing now i guess, i rarely watch V+ or sky movies/sports anymore, so it'll save me a few pennys anyway and let me download more!

Yea, my cable modem has always been 1/2 the speed its supposed to be too and ive been with them since it was blueyonder! Tho, im told with the new modem you 'must' use the new router, which uses 3 mac address' combined to get the 50mb speed....all jargon to me

I think it's deliberate. It's a very Branson thing to do.

Virgin Media are brilliant by the way. No other provider comes close to them for my particular circumstances.
