One of my PC's has frozen at start-up so I think the hard drive has failed. Can I buy this hard drive and just stick it in or do you have to buy a specific hard drive for your specific PC

Are hard drives universal on PC's?

I'm surprised IBM haven't contacted you. You must be the only person with any working ones

I promised myself i'd spend my money elsewhere after that fiasco.

You need to check whether your PC supports SATA HDD's or IDE HDDs (or both) I think most built in the last couple of years at least will be running SATA drives.

The one on top is SATA one below is IDE.

You will also need an Operating System to install back onto it :-)

Agreed !

Now Seagate have abandoned 5 year warranties - other seems to want to reduce down to 2 or just 1 year.

Seagate are off my list for good now - due to their total disdain for their 7200.11 customers who've had lots of issues.

Looks like Western Digital with their 3 year warranties (for now!) are the ones to get.

Voted hot.

I'm running 8 of the 1TB 7K1000.B's in an external enclosure 24/7. Quiet and cool (at 29c atm).
