Nice price for 16x speed and if DataWrite do actually write at that speed Had some recently that just won't write at full speed in any DVD writer I have. But at this price, they're worth trying out Thanks!

I bought the Savastore eProformance on a recent deal - cheap but insist on writing at 2x on my iMac any idea if these would write at 8x or better?

I had about 5 of those disks fail to burn using NERO... Not worth the cheapness in my opinion - next time I'll buy some better ones..

It's the first time I've bought non-Ritek, because of the inclusive p+p really.

Won't buy again.

I bought the same disks, burnt over 40 so far, 0 failed! Used Sonic RecordNow and not Nero though (had always problems with Nero in the past, no problems with Sonic RecordNow).

I bought some the Savastore eProformance discs as well, the dvd-r version. I thought they were really good, they actually burn at 12x on my writer and get good reviews on videohelp.com

Its just a shame they've stopped doing them with free shipping.

I asked why the slow speeds on an Apple forum and got the following link which is a guide to DVD quality. Make of it what you will http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Not a fan of the datawrite brand dvd-rs.

I'd rather pay that little bit extra for a better brand, got a load of datawrite yellows a few years ago and the playback was very jumpy and skippy, they also made my writer keep getting calibration errors. I have switched brands to taiyo yuden and not a single skip ever or calibration error since.

Never had a problem with 8x Yellow, Grey or Red datawrites. Can't remember the last time I had a coaster. Using a Benq DW1640 drive with updated firmware.

Be aware that different DVD writer drives have their own prefered media. So might not be the media per se, but the drive just doesn't work well with it. I do remember hearing that Sony (rebranded Lite-On) drives didn't like datawrites a while back. There might be a list of recommended media on the drive manufacturer's website. There might also be a firmware update that improves compatibility for more media.

If you do have problems burning certain brands or dye types, check for a firmware update or at the very least try burning at a slower speed. So try 2x or 4x, even if the media is rated for faster.

Hi,
Could someone advise me on what dvd-r's i need to get. I don't understand the difference between the dye's?
I have a £5 play.com voucher (From Domino's) that I need to use by tonight.

What are better out of these (3 for 2)

Maxell DVD-R 50pk Spindle: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/STTS2/3-/...e/Product.html

Sony DVD-R Recordable 50pk: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/RTS/3-/90...k/Product.html

Thanks in advance, any others?

Daniel

Have to agree datawrite yellows are one of the worst brands of media out there. In fact I would avoid all media that has the datawrite brand.
