If you dont want a Sky Contract this is the one to get for Freesat.
Not a bad price for this beauty even if you are not a VIP Member
NOTE: VIPmember price avaibale to email subscribers.

EDIT: Looks like its available online and in store now.

Taking freesat technology one step further, freesat+ gives you the ability to record digital channels on the massive 320GB hard disc drive. Furthermore, this HDD system also lets you pause and rewind live TV! It doesn't stop there, either. Twin TV tuners mean that you can record 2 channels at the same time or watch one program whilst recording another.

As ever, freesat gives you access to over 140 digital TV and radio channels with the option of HD (High Definition) viewing.

To make the most of this latest innovation, the Humax Foxsat-HDR makes the ideal choice. As the name suggests, the Foxsat-HDR is able to receive HD TV channels and services and will therefore make the most of HD Ready TVs. With up to 5 times the picture detail, HD TV images offer stunning realism, whatever the genre.

As you'd expect from one of the leading manufacturers of set-top boxes, the Humax freesat HDR has a very high spec. The HDMI output resolves up to 1080i, whilst there's a SCART for those without an HDMI-equipped TV. An optical digital output allows you to connect the set-top box to a home cinema system and get digital sound quality to match the picture. With automatic software upgrades, a full colour on-screen programme guide and Ethernet support, the Foxsat-HDR is easy to use and comprehensively equipped for the future.

For the complete freesat experience, the Humax Foxsat-HDR makes a compelling choice.

freesat and the freesat logo are the registered trade marks of Freesat (UK) Ltd

A bit of a pain that, although I have 2 stores within 30 or so miles of me. Maybe it might be online in future.

The 5 year warranty deal makes it very attractive (unless you intend to void your warranty by putting a 1T Hard drive in)

Any potential purchasers should be aware of the numerous reports of very soft PQ with SD broadcasts which it would appear Humax are unable to solve

I actually posted a similar deal quite recently [and ordered myself] http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/36192...disc-recorder/ only to back out and cancel the order.

That one being with Homebase [read Argos] was excluded from the moneyback guarantee, so it it wasn't right, then...tough!

I would only go ahead on the understanding you could get your money back if required. I understand that Humax are working on a new model to try and 'get it right' this time....

My refund was only processed yesterday

I have had the Humax since December and read reports of soft PQ on SD. Some people say using an RGB scart is better than the HDMI connector for Sd (not HD).

I can't say I have had any issues with SD Picture quality and the HD quality is breathtaking. I have mine connected to a Panasonic LZD85 and have adjusted the settings for both SD and HD and am more than pleased, especially when compared to my old Sony DVD PVR where the PQ on SD is poor.

Some people report a softer, not so sharp, Picture Quality (PQ) on SD . It is beleived the possible cause is made up of many factors. Some of this is down to transmission differences between Freesat, Freeview and even individual channels, the make of TV you own and it's settings as well as the Humax itself. It all gets very technical ( see below...) if you read the AV & Digital Spy forums but I wouldn't let it put you off as I dont find it an issue at all.

...." try "v-format" button on the remote and select "original" see if thats any better it is here ......

...I think that fixes my SD quality problem. Having just got my foxsat up on running I have found that the SD picture on my Samsung Series 6 built in freeview tuner is definitely sharper than that from the HDMI output on the foxsat. The foxsat image is very soft for SD. Could be in part down to inferior signal (I found a thread somewhere suggesting ITV1 transmits at 544 x 576 on freesat and 704 x 576 on freeview for example).

However, I suspect the foxsat isn't great at upscaling compared to my native TV. If I press V-Format until I force the foxsat output down to 576p to match the transmission, then I assume my TV picks up the job of upscaling... "

Not that ONLY way to get free sat that is false.

I got myself a DVB-S card recently for my PC it was only £25 for that I can get free sat on that.

A good price, and very tempting, but I'm going to wait until Topfield bring out such a box.

You're not comparing apple with apple here. Your card requires a PC, this receiver doesn't :-)

Also, your card is SD while this is HD, has two tuners (so you can record a channel and watch another),...etc etc.

Personally I was going to buy this until I saw the OP saying it's 1080i!!! - I was always under the impression it's 1080p! - I would be looking at a dreambox HD now instead but neverthless excellent deal if you want the Humax - heat and rep added.

I believe Topfield aren't at present a designated Freesat manufacturer so it might be a long wait. The only other Freesat PVR on the horizon is from Panasonic later this year.

I dont think you'll get the Freesat EPG with the Dreambox either as it's not Freesat badged.
