Rather have the little plump one that have no room to move about as they are much tastier. I tried to go free range with chickens but found nearly every one I got to be tough rubbery and tasteless. The cheap ones taste much better to me. I do not mind paying extra for quality and would prefer free range but they taste rubbish.

you must be cooking it wrong then as EVERY free range I have tasted is much better. or maybe you just like the taste of growth hormones.

Nowt wrong with my cooking I can assure you. I must have been unlucky as the last 3 free range ones were not good. the last one was a morrisons best range and was nearly a tenner. It was tough as old boots.

Give me a standard chicken any time

Lol. It is not a matter of if it is right or wrong with me. I prefer to eat something that has a had a better life but at the end of the day animals are reared for eating and I choose which tastes better. The free range ones I have had have all been large ones and maybe that is why they are tough but they were not that nice in my opinion. Maybe I should try non super market ones?

As for growth hormones, that is what makes britain strong, lol Everything we eat is full of rubbish anyhow.

yeah, go for one from one of the better supermarkets like waitrose/sainsburys/M&S or farmers markets rather than the budget shops like lidl, asda etc

as these dont have water pumped into them, they will be drier so always a good idea to cook it upside for the first 30 mins when roasting (makes it more succulent).

Sounds like the answer. A water injected chicken must have different cooking requirements than a proper one. Basting techniqus would help and the result would be far better. I can't imagine any decent chefs using cheapo chcikens. Except JO of course, because Sainsburys are paying him.
