Cheaper, maybe. But no way better. Getting more and more like the Daily Mail every day, in looks and content. The only advantage over the Guardian is better legal coverage. In every other respect it's inferior.

I should know - I subscribe to the damn thing. I bought a cheap subscription and dropped the Guardian. As soon as my 48 weeks are up, though, I'm going back again. The Guardian may be dearer, but it has integrity. I don't think anyone on the Times understands that word.

The Times is my paper of choice - although I do read plently of others - I'm sure I waste far too much of my life reading papers, but I am a news freak. Can't say I enjoy the guardian at all, too far left for me.

I used to get the Guardian as a student and you used to get vouchers for it - half price - not sure if they still do it. You also used to get a Mug or an Alarm clock free.

I used to think so, but yesterday got me thinking. Everybody talks about the Gurkhas, but the Guardian has a title page about green shoots of recovery according to some consumer confidence survey? Come on - that is pretty much the definition generic non-news. Obviously someone was trying very hard to find something other than the Gurkhas to stick onto the front page...

What I am saying is that each paper has its bias, and neither is really objective. Luckily with the Internet you can have a quick look around, and it is easier to get an overview.

I caught the great deal of the times a while ago. They are keen to get readers which is more than can be said for the Gruinard. Before i took the deal, i asked the Gruinard if they had any subscription deals and 2 weeks later i got a 'no'. Pity as i think it it a better paper and would change if they threw us a bone.

If the US is a guide, we will have a lot less papers to choose from which is a shame. Saw the Indy is looking for a buyer

I got a 'no' too when I asked. Then, a few days later, this appeared, giving 33% off (still a live offer):

Too late for me - I'd already switched to the Times. I'm going back again once the 48 weeks with the Times are up. It's too much like the Daily Mail now, not just in looks and feel, but in content too. It's also an embarrassment to be seen reading it in public!
