Castrol GTX Diesel 10W 40 - 4 Litre Motor Oil £9.98 @ Homebase

£9.98

348°

FOUND BY: azzy129 6 months, 3 weeks ago

I was doing a search for motor oil but for Petrol cars and came across this. This is up for £19.99 on the Halfords website and probably the same in store aswell. So this is half price. I don't know if this is a typpo. As I couldn't find the petrol version I am going to go to my local store in the morning and see what the price is of that aswell as this particular one.

You can safely use the "diesel" oil in a petrol engine, and at a shove, vice versa.

The difference between the two is the level of detergent additive -- the diesel oil has to deal with removing a fair amount of carbon deposits (soot). Whereas a petrol engine is relatively clean in comparison -- the detergents just are not required in the same quantities.

There's no danger to a petrol engine from this, and the oil will not perform any less efficiently. If the diesel oil's the only one on offer, grab it!

"So this is half price. I don't know if this is a typpo"

Sorry, but the irony of this statement is too good to ignore

Castrol GTX - Just put some old dish water in instead its about the same quality and cost a lot less plus you don't have to go and get it....

As mentioned diesel oil in a petrol won't do any harm, unless the car is old/high mileage in which case the diesel oil tends to remove all the old crud that's actually keeping the engine sealed and quieter, they tend to leak n rattle like stones in a bean tin after a bout 1000 miles once the diesel oil has stripped all the ***** off the old worn components.

I wish people would check before raising the temp of deals which are posted. I've just been to 3 homebase stores all of which have this oil for £9.99 per litre. Don't bother wasting any time. I'd like to think this was a local deal and give the benefit of the doubt.

Be aware that for a complete oil change most people will need 2 of these , as the average oil capicity of modern cars is 4.5 litres.

I got the information from Homebase' own website. Blame them for the incorrect info
