wasnt this priced under 200 on offer.. all the bleedy monitors have been massivly inflated in price

I don't think it being TN has got anything to do with it. A smaller lightsource may help, or it may just give more focused and annoying backlight bleed so we'll have to wait for a few more LED monitors before deciding that.

As far as I can see the main advantage of LED backlights in these sorts of screens is that they reduce power usage.

250 Cd/m2 is not terribly bright, though

For monitors you're unlikely to use even that, even in the sunny room where I have my PC I never have the brightness of my 300cd/m² monitor at more than half as any higher causes me eyestrain. Unless you're planning to use it outside or at a distance then 250 is more than enough.

The potential advantages of LED backlighting over CCFL are:

1) Lower power consumption
2) Improved physical attributes, i.e. thinner, lighter
3) Longer backlight life
4) Improved colour Gamut, i.e. they can reproduce a greater range of colours.
5) More consistant backlight coverage. Due to multiple light sources from LED's rather then one or two CCFL lamps.
6) No shift in colour gamut over lifetime. CCFL output wil shift over time.
7) Consistant brightnes over lifetime. CCFL's lose brightness over their lifetime. LED's generally remain consistant until they go "pop"
8) Less hazardous materials to dispose off at end of life.

Obviously not all implimentations will realise every one of these benefits. But these are the key potential gains over conventional CCFL backlighting.

The OP is a little confused 'This is a LED-LCD against the more common TFT-LCD.' ...it's still a TFT screen, only the backlight has changed from CCFL to LED.

Decent price I guess, though personally I'd never buy a TN.

I have just purchased 10 of these for work and they are good but not great. The first I did was turn off the power saving fature as all it did was dim the screen to the point it looked dull.

Looks like they're not configured properly?

I spent quite a bit of time configuring my 19" TFT TN monitor when I purchased it a few years ago. For a start, it was too bright & everything was set at 100%. There are various settings to play with, & free programs out there to calibrate monitors properly - perhaps not to a professional standard, but surely anything's better than the rubbish default settings! And remember, once you do one to your liking, you'll hopefully only need to replicate the same settings on the other monitors

Ah, I'd forgotton about the second one, I guess that'll have a few specialised benefits like easiest wall mounting and easier lan party travel.

Do you have any sorts of figures here? 10 years vs. 20 years?

Unfortunately, as the general software support isn't in place yet this is generally a disadvantage since it'll result in everything having shifted colours.
