Have been looking for a good price PC to improve on my existing set up (top of the range about 5 years ago). Really want something that will stop my pc crashing when syncing my ipod and will work well with media streaming of HD content and for watching internet tv like iplayer et al.

Would also be nice if this ran The Sims 3, but if I have to sacrfice modern gaming I don't mind. What do people think of this deal? seems a good price for a quad core

I see this is getting chilly, if anyone has feedback please let me know because I was contemplating stumping up the cash and don't want to if there is a better deal available or at least one more suited to my needs

Cheapest I can see onTesco now is a Acer (Aspire M5201 Quad Core 4GB 1.2TB PC Base Unit - Dedicated graphics and Blu-Ray) for £449, seems quite expensive though. Not too fussed about Blu Ray so think I am going to opt for the refurb deal, unless anyone else know about any other stonkong PC deals??
I'm tempted too, it's just worrying that it's cold. Makes you think something better might be out there, anyone?

This is a media PC, lacking a gaming graphics card. You should be able to add a discrete graphics card to this, assuming there's a slot for it, but you're probably looking at spending another £80 on top to get a semi-decent one (Radeon 4770 is the current choice AFAIK)
If you want a Quad core machine because you have programs that will take advantage of it, this is a reasonable computer. Tom's Hardware recently did a comparison on the number of cores to see how much of an effect they have, so it might be worth checking that out:-

Secondhand busted & patched up Acer, sold by a DSG company.

Can't think of anything I would like less of!

I don't know about this particular model.

But...

Just before Christmas a got a similar type of thing - phenom refurbished from PC world (could have been Currys, same group anyway) it was the cheapest for the spec I could find and I reasoned it had a 12month warranty so was no more a risk than buying brand new. It's been great, no probs, would defo advise if you can't find spec cheaper.

What's stupid about the truth?

It's not new. It will have been broken.
It will have been repaired. Hopefully well enough.
It is up for sale by a DSG company. A problem eeven with NEW goods!

It is one of those iffy brands to start with, not the most reliable, and not the worst either.

Now, if you or your Uncle are prepared to put up with substandard goods sold by a substandard company, then some might suggest that is stupid - I wouldn't, and I would buy it myself IF, (and this is the big if) - IF it was CHEAP enough. This isn't, so that's stupid.
I am obviously not the only one that thinks so - It seems others agree this isn't much of deal. In case you hadn't noticed, it is a bit sub-zero.
