Can't actually find anywhere else that does this unit but occured to me with all the cheap gfx card deals this might save someone £20-50 on a bigger psu to power their new toy/s

very nice price, although if you are running some of the more beafy cards like the gtx 295 you'll need something with more grunt than this, do check the amps required carefully!

although this may seem handy i carnt help but wonder if your psu isnt powerfull enough for gfx cards then why buy this to go alongside a psu that just isnt good enough anyways, like spending good money after bad. i'd spend about 30-40£ on a 500+ watt psu and save the clutter of two devices for the one purpose. psu's are so easy to fit my grandmother could have done it. just make sure it has at least 1 6pin pci-e connector and your good to go plus you'll have the old psu as a backup/tester should you ever need one ;)

You sure? The quoted PSU spec is on the basis that it is running the rest of the machine too!
Remember, this is on top of the fitted PSU

tbh, PSU's probably don't even need a 6 pin connector, the main thing to look for these days is the main motherboard power connector, which these days on most boards is a 24 pin connection, as opposed to the old 20 pin standard.

i imagine that connection is commonplace these days, but on my last upgrade it wasn't. As for the 6 pin connectors, the 4870 card i bought recently requires 2x 6pin connectors (the greedy sod) but Sapphire being the kind souls that they are included two 4 to 6 pin convertor cables in the biox with the card

but yeah, as you say this seems a bit of a pointless gadget to me, as you can get a good quality PSU for 5-10 quid more.

This is a really great product that I wish I had bought instead of replacing my psu when I went for dual GTX 260's. Would have saved me around £40, I will definately recommend it.

Super_Bob & irradiated - couldn't agree more

For only £7.50 more, one can get a 700W FSP with 2x 6pin PCI-E connectors.

This is a bit of a gimmicky PSU nowadays. And was aimed at users 3 years ago (as one can see from review dates) when it might've made better sense as powerful PSUs were quite expensive.

Edit: Well looks like JB's experience above has just refuted what I said!

for those with the older 20 pin mobo, the 24 pin adaptors have the last 4 pins on a removable bit so they are 20 or 24 pins

Would much rather buy a decent PSU in the first place, as said the FSP 700W PSU is a much better buy.

COLD COLD COLD Scan had there wicked FSP 700watt psu on for just over £30 a couple of days ago and its always on today only sometimes for £29.99 this is a stupid idea only powers graphics cards takes up a bay gets stinking hot if you have a card that need a bigger PSU than you've got do yourself a favour and buy a better PSU even a cheap PSU will do you better these where close to £70 when some ******** released them but it shows how good they are and it would be a question if they would run some of today's monsters in xfire or sli or even 1 card up.

How this could have made it over a 100c is beyond me it tells me that some people havent a clue i wouldnt buy one of these if they where on at a tenner if there was a freezing vote it wouldnt be cold enough.

I know its not on now put it will be within the week and that will run anything and is in the 80+ club for efficiency

The GTX 295 is actually fairly modest at 215W, so as long as you're only planning to run a single one you should be fine with this. The 4870X2 might be pushing your luck though, as it's been recorded drawing 265W linky.

Why on earth is the power of your original PSU relevent?

The only reason you would entertain this is if you had a pants PSU even a decent 450watt will run a top card and saying you have your PSU aswell is pointless as if your looking at these it means that your PSU is loaded way up so that has nothing to do with it.

Why would you mention the 295 if you had one of those you wouldn't be putting it on one of these you would have a 1000watt+ by corsair or the like as someones said this was from years ago when big supplies where expensive even then it was a bad idea the only thing that's good about this is the manufacturer being FSP other than that its like cheap tat that will make you rig look like a dogs dinner.
