Even lesser known fact still, although Sean Moore did play all the drums on the UK version, his parts were replaced with drum machine parts programmed by James Dean Bradfield. Since James also played his lead guitar parts on the album, as well as Nicky Wire's bass parts and Richey Edwards rythym guitar parts, it goes to mean that with the exception of some Sean Moore backing vocals, James is the only member of the band who actually performs on this album. Anyone who's seen bootlegs from that era would understand why.
Wow - I guess that all makes sense,
but there was the story at the time of the 2nd album that Richie went to plug his guitar in, in the studio, and all the others laughed... didn't this suggest that Nicky played in the studio before this too?
To be honest, I just used to go see them to watch Richie. I only saw them once after he went AWOL and they didn't interest me anymore.
