CD Description
Those fans that discovered this album when it was first released deserve to feel ever so slightly smug. It took most ofthe rest of the world until EVERYTHING MUST GO before this album was fully appreciated. Sounding like a cross between metal and punk, the energy and melody never lets up for one second. After the first three tracks are over, a quick lie-down is in order before you tackle the sentiment of "Motorcycle Emptiness". Lyrically, the Manics are giants; it is a great pity that their statements of ironic values of the 80s and90s are not listened to more. Thank goodness this album was finally discovered.

Well worth it, still one of my favourite albums and contains staples of their set list almost 20 years on.

Great album... lesser known fact: all the drums on this album were programmed - the little drummer boy didn't actually play on it!

Even lesser known fact, the original American version was edited to 14 tracks and 8 of the songs were remixed and included live drums instead.

Even lesser known fact still, although Sean Moore did play all the drums on the UK version, his parts were replaced with drum machine parts programmed by James Dean Bradfield. Since James also played his lead guitar parts on the album, as well as Nicky Wire's bass parts and Richey Edwards rythym guitar parts, it goes to mean that with the exception of some Sean Moore backing vocals, James is the only member of the band who actually performs on this album. Anyone who's seen bootlegs from that era would understand why.

Are you trying to suggest that Richey was not on a par with Jimi Hendrix?

Wow - I guess that all makes sense, but there was the story at the time of the 2nd album that Richie went to plug his guitar in, in the studio, and all the others laughed... didn't this suggest that Nicky played in the studio before this too?

To be honest, I just used to go see them to watch Richie. I only saw them once after he went AWOL and they didn't interest me anymore.
