Any help with flooring would be helpful

POSTED BY: archer1204 6 months, 5 days ago

I am currently looking at laminate flooring for my mid size lounge and hallway as my budget wont stretch to solid wood flooring but i hate my current carpet. If you have any other alternate suggestions would be appreciated.
Also if you have laminate flooring how much it cost when did you have it laid and how much for fitting.
Any other helpful tips and hints to buying laminate flooring be greatly appreciated

Should get your flooring and underlay from ikea, good price and lasts gd few years, We fitted out our lounge and hall 21ft x11ft lounge for under 200 quid. That wasn't even their cheapest stuff too.

I must admit I hate wooden flooring.

Very cold in the winter, I prefer good quality carpet.

Can you not use your original floorboards that is what i am doing better than any laminate or wooden flooring when they are prepared right.

Family friend did a 5m by 5m living room plus 2m by 2m porch 18mm solid wood for £200. Was supposed to be £100 a day only took him 1.5 days but i was stupid and gave him money for 2 full days work.

Quote above is for labour the floor boards were expensive oak. Can't remember how much i paid for it.

Aye we ended up going back to carpet after 2 years of having the ikea flooring.
Laminate is handy if you have a dog or young messy kids though.

I hate carpet, the stuff that lives in there is unbelievable, I have all porcelaine and ceramic flooring and I steam it, if you saw the cloth after steaming you would never have carpet, everything 'lives' in carpet whereas when you steam a floor wood or ceramic you know its clean

Well I would def say get it laid by someone who knows what they doing,if the floor is out by much it can be diffucult to do yourself.
We had ours done in here a few mths ago and was £320 plus a fiver to take away the old flooring, the room is about 12ft X 10ft. I didn't buy the cheapest available they had,and this included the underlay.
My partner messed it up mega last time he did in here, never again.

How much is real wood flooring anyway?

I 2nd the Ikea suggestion. It was really easy to put together and looked really good. Very reasonably priced too. Its still in good condition after 3 yrs even though it was taken up when we moved and then put down again in my bro's house.

Well the one i got from wickes can be sanded 3 times and has a 25 guarantee.

I think we bought it at 30-40% discount for the whole house. Took 4 trips in my car. Found out we could have got free delivery as we spent over £300
