Strange, as Welsh is a compulsory subject. All schoolkids have to attend lessons, but can opt to take a short course GCSE if they wish instead of a full GCSE.
Its use is growing in Wales - it would be a dying langauage has the Conservatives not tried to win Welsh votes by introducing laws to make it on a par with the English language within Wales.
In my son's school they have the odd lesson if they are lucky enough to have the teacher who speaks welsh. and i mean odd lesson maybe 2/3 a term, they do have welsh translastions for things on the walls but most of the children cant read it in welsh let alone say it. forgot to mention my son is only 7 this might be why they are not compulsory lessons.
Good luck to the Conservatives hopefully things will change but to be honest i doubt it very much every politition says the same thing to win votes and nothing is ever done about it, lack of funds is the normal response.
Unless funds are found to support S4C we will lose the only welsh tv channel, once this is gone there will be no welsh language tv shows on tv,
What does make me laugh are some of the road signs you see in Wales..both in English and with the Welsh translation under, some of them when translated to English do not correspond with the English version.lol
