LOW PROFILE Asus Radeon HD 4550 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI/HDMI 3yr warranty @ Novatech - £41.38 inc del!

£41.38

43°

FOUND BY: jukkie 5 months, 3 weeks ago

THIS CARD IS LOW PROFILE, LOW PROFILE, LOW PROFILE.
Seriously, how many times do I have to say it. I don't care how much better other models are, if they aren't low profile they are useless for a SFF machine.

OK, let me start out straight away by saying this is NOT a card for hardcore gamers. Although it will handle most games at reasonable details settings and resolutions.

This card also has a low profile bracket, so can be installed into small form factor PC's, unlike most cards these days.

This card is, however, the perfect choice for a HTPC that you might also want to game on a little, without having to spend a fortune.
Along with the 4770, this is one of the best value for money cards around, especially if you're on a tight budget.

Also comes with a rather nice 3 year warranty.

If you can collect from their showroom it's £39.09
Don't worry about the stock levels, Novatech always get stock in quite quickly if they run out.

Also, you can get a HD 4550 for a fraction under £40 from ebuyer, but no 3 year warranty.

£34.95 at scan if you use the free delivery workaround - think it's if you're a member of avforums or something.

Actually, according to avforums, free delivery is applied only to orders of £50 excluding VAT.
I just tried this myself as I have enough posts on avforums, but don't get the free delivery on this.

EDIT: I just added 3 of them to my basket, but still no free delivery. Maybe they don't delivery for free at all now?

I don't know, it's a bit odd to be honest. I know I used to get the free delivery from when I ordered some DVD players. But no matter what I put in the basket I still have to pay delivery now.

You can get a 4350 for £30 from novatech if you're not interested in processing power, and if you are then the 4650 DDR3 is twice as powerful for a few pounds more (ebuyer have it at £50 delivered, ILGS have it for £43 but I don't know what their delivery costs are like).

Does the 4550 have any benefit over the 4350 for media centre use?

Actually I forgot to mention one of the benefits of the 4550.
It's low profile, so can be installed in small form factor PC's (which a lot of people, like myself, have as their HTPC).

The card I posted also comes with a 3 year warranty, and has native HDMI.
The 4550 has faster memory than the 4350 AND the 4650 (they have DDR2, while the 4550 has DDR3), and generally a better all rounder than the 4350.

And the 4650 at ebuyer is nearly 25% more expensive.

There's no point in comparing this to other higher or lower spec cards (unless the higher spec ones really are only a couple of pounds diference), obviously the more you pay the better it is.

It's like if someone posted a deal for a Ford Focus. I wouldn't bother saying "if you spent more you could get an Audi TT", or "If you spent less you could get a Fiat *insert cheap crappy car model here*". There's no point in stating the obvious.

Feel free to let me know if you find this card cheaper elsewhere, other than that any comparisons are pointless and not worth posting.

The Novatech 4350 is also low profile and comes with 'built-in' HDMI, in fact it comes with two digital outputs instead of the single one on this. It does 'only' have a two year warranty but it has the advantage that the 4550 is 33% more expensive.

Although I haven't looked at any benchmarks I'd imagine the 4350 uses up less power and gives off less heat as well, in fact completely silent versions without a fan are availible for a couple of pounds more, still well beneath the price of this.

Plus the 4350 DDR2 isn't that much slower: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3420&p=5 - you probably won't notice much difference between the two in practical use given your low requirements if this is suitible in the first place.

Yes, but 100% faster. This is poor value for money performance-wise.

It is also the GDDR3 version: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/153214

If you want a faster card at the same price then there is the Nvidia 9500GT.

This card does appear to be the fastest low-profile card for under £40 but when the 4350 is better for media center use £10 less and the speed increase is too little for gaming I'm struggling to see who this is going to be a good deal for.

Free delivery works for me with this item. You have to go to the checkout and login before postage becomes free and the limit is £20 before VAT - AvForums. So this deal is cold for me.

I'm so confused by them. I know how to order with the free delivery, I've done it before (I even checked my previous order history to make sure it's the same account, and it is). It just doesn't work for me now...

A 4650 DDR3 is a lot more than twice as powerful, . 80 stream processors vs. 320 and a (useless) 64 bit bus vs. 128 bit bus. This card is honestly a terrible buy, in no way suitable for gaming and as such horribly overpriced. If all you want is a HTPC card then you can spend a lot less than this and achieve the same goal.

Freezing cold. Heck, its not even a good deal for this individual card considering you can get it elsewehere for £35 delivered.

Find a better LOW PROFILE card or be quiet, please.
You can spend all day telling me how much better this or that card is, but they wont fit in a small form factor PC, which was the reason I posted this deal.

I said the better CARD, come on ffs, read... I've already admitted to the scan deal as being better.
I'm aiming the comment at people who keep telling me how great the 4650 is...
