And have you noticed that last time petrol was around a pound a litre, the papers went mental, but there hasnt really been any mention in the papers about the price (that I have seen)

Even more annoying for me as I can't use supermarket fuel, My car doesn't like it...!!!

It growls at me and an Engine fault is recorded. So have to have ECU reset.

It's fine with premium fuel i,e BP, Esso etc

Yeah I have that's why I used the word "sneaked" up. Was around 83p a few months ago too! it's just granted that next week petrol will be over £1 per litre then will keep rising as ministers holidays get more extravigant and need funding!!!

Define premium fuel?

If you mean standard 95 octane from BP and are saying it's fine compared with 95 octane from Tesco there's something terribly wrong with your car - it's the same fuel in most cases.

If you mean "super" unleaded - use Tesco 99 RON because it's the best of all of the super unleaded fuels as proved time and time again.

Which car ?

Standard 95 Octane

It's A Fiat Multipla

Had a problem where on the display it said "Engine CTRL - Contact Garage"

Had it diagnosed and it was a Cat and Lamba sensor malfunction, After mechanic reset the ECU it was fine.

I was advised from the mechanic to avoid Supermarket fuel stick to premium petrol, Theirs been several people with similar issues, Especially over the last couple of years.

He's 99% certain that it was the petrol that caused the fault codes and if I use premium petrol it shouldn't return.

I've followed his advice and 6000 miles on it's been fine with no problems.

Contrary to popular belief their is a difference between "some" supermarket fuel and premium brands, They have additives in the fuel.

The supermarket prior to the fault I used was a Sainsburys petrol station.

It might just of been a bad batch of fuel but not worth having the problem return.

What a load of tosh, the recent increases have been caused by the recent price increase of crude. Tax has clearly remained the same over the recent weeks....

I read somewhere, can't remember the past week or so, city speculators were artificially driving up the price of oil and OPEC who usually would not moan, as they are the prime suspects usually in a price hike, they were even showing concern, as there is an oversupply currently with the global financial crisis.
May be off the mark as I have been away and busy since I got back, so no real time to catch the news, but from what I did read, it was something along those lines.

Its not been in the papers this time, because the lorry drivers Diesel prices aren't rising as fast as petrol

Its them that normally start getting cross about things first because it obviously effects their own income. But because Diesel prices haven't moved that much there are no protests! My opinion anyway...
