we had our first in december, it's gone so fast the last six months, but what a six months! taken over my life but he's brilliant.

Oh and nothing can prepare the fathers for actually being there at the birth, happiest day of my life

Yes it's our first.

Not exactly got everything yet, actually it feels like we have nothing!!

Cot and moses basket are being delivered soon, same with pushchair/car seat.

We really need to get the bag sorted, thanks for reminding about the petrol!!!

Sorry, i thought you meant you were 5 weeks away, just realised you meant 5 weeks into it!!

My son was born couple of weeks ago - must say i had a completely different experience.. It may have been due to it being quite a rough labour on my wife and scared the crap out of me though.

When he popped out and felt numb to it, i mean i knew i loved him and if anyone touched him yada yada etc.. But i didn't feel any life altering experience that people told me i would.. Have slowly bonded with him more and more though.

i dont think your experiece is something out of the ordinary, just most people dont admit it, i never felt a close bond to either of my two and i am the mother, its something that came pretty quickly but certainly wasnt there as soon as they arrived

My OH cried at all 3 of our childrens births.

1st baby was 12 days late, I was induced, she took 20 hours to come out, she was a merconium baby so was whipped away as soon as she came out to be cleaned up, had the drip in my hand to keep the contractions coming, my hand swelled up to twice its size as they didnt tell me to keep moving it lol. I took an epidural with her because she was laying back to back on me, part of the reason why my labour took so long was because we were waiting on her turning, I had to be cut with her because she got stuck and they needed to use forceps.

2nd baby was 14 days late, she took 3.5 hours to come out, went into hospital and they put they tablet things in, which worked a treat as I didnt have to have the drip drug in to keep the contractions coming, managed with gas and air for a while but then it became unbearable, got the morphine jag and she was out about an hour later.

3rd baby was 10 days late, he was induced too, my labour took 12 hours with him, I managed the whole labour up until 11.20pm with the gas and air, then at 11.25pm she gave me the morphine jag, 11.30pm he was born, what a pure waste of morphine lol.

I've never had the pleasure/displeasure of my waters breaking/contractions starting themselves lol, they've always been broken for me.

My midwives have always been excellent, I'll never forget the advice the midwife gave me during my 2nd labour, she said..

"concentrate Ashley, as soon as the babys head is out stop pushing immediately"

She told me that it would reduce the risk of me tearing/needing to be cut, telling you its the best piece of advice that anyone has giving me, I remembered what she had told me and did the same with the birth of my wee boy and it worked a treat again.

Needed 5 stitches with the first and none at all with the 2nd 2.

Telling ya if anyone told ya just how painful it was to pee after you'd been cut and stitched back together you'd probably never have any naturally lol.

I think whilst having my babies i've never felt closer to my partner, he was there with me the entire time and just made everything so much easier, I definetly couldn't have gotten through it without him.

Back to back is painful,I had same with 1st so had epidural, midwife even come over in ambulance with me and left her car in my Mums road,I must been sick about 20 times until hospital give me an injection to help stop sickness.Back ache really bad, contractions didn't bother me early on.
Not had any stitches with other 2 and hopefully will not this time round if he/she comes out of breech that is. It's more to do if they do a right mess of fixing up than the actual having to have them as can cause problems later on if not done properly.
