O2 mobile contract renewals - get credit instead of a new phone. From £1.67/month or lower!

£1.67

15°

FOUND BY: stufai 5 months, 3 days ago

STARTS: 22/06/2009

Renewed my O2 contract today and as they didn't have the phone I wanted available they gave me credit towards the value of it. So they have got me on a £10/month contract for 18months (200mins and 1400texts) but have put £150 of credit on my account (which can be used towards my bill), so if I keep my old mobile I am paying £1.67/month without having to worry about Quidco or Cashback claims.

(Nb. I wanted the LG KP500 Cookie, but I guess it would work with other phones too.)

this is standard practice for O2, they did this for me when I said I was happy with my current phone

Not great IMO. £150 for an 18mth contract is less than a tenner a month. At last upgrade I got the handset I wanted AND £10 off my monthly bill EVERY month for the rest of the renewed contract (18mths).

The harder you haggle, the more you get. Renewal deals tend to be pretty hit and miss, but for me this is a miss.

Not saying that you didn't get the deal that you wanted, but obviously reducing £10 off of a £30/month bill would still mean paying a lot of money over the lifetime of the contract, whereas for less than £2/month for 200mins and 1400texts is a bargain imo.

They often offer decent deals via retailers with cashback and quidco, knowing that the average user won't bother/remember to claim, whereas this is hassle free. I do agree that these are a bit hit-and-miss though, but it's nice to have a benchmark that you can state.

This is a good deal, you will only get more credit by increasing your montly payment, why would you want to do that?

£1.67/month that would do me!

VERY VERY hot deal - especially without cashback.

Just to make sure this is O2 online? Or O2 CPW?

You've not read the deal properly, it's £10 per month plus £150 credit on account. So £30 over 18 months.

I phoned o2 broadband by accident and got reconnected, but by looking on their website the number is 08442 020202.

(Or from Say No to 0870 you can use 0800 0288151)

Hope that helps
