Warning - 30% Decking Price Rise Imminent

Not quite a deal as such.... Just been pricing decking at my local Jewson and have been told that they have an across the board rise on decking coming on July 1st of 30%. It seems that Scandinavian redwood is in short supply and the exchange rate is also hurting. If Jewson are putting their prices up by this much you can bet other suppliers will be too. Not sure if this is purely for softwood?

Just a heads-up to anyone planning a decking project. Hope this helps someone.

nice warning lets hope people realise this is a saving and they better rush or buy at the end of summer to get gardens ready for next year.

Shame some people fall for it. (It may be true but most times when people say this it's just to make a sale).

Well they might put everythin up by 30% so that 6 weeks later they can have a 'sale' - and yet the prices will be the same as todays

bluedave - I can understand your skepticism(!), but I actually think this is genuine. I have quite a good rapport with the manager at our local store and he's pretty straightforward. He just mentioned it in passing. It'll be interesting to see what the next few weeks bring in terms of price adjustments with the other suppliers. For now this is mainly just a heads-up for anyone about to do some decking and planning to use Jewsons......

Well it certainly is good to have a heads up, and certainly if I was thinking about getting decking I'd be taking your advice and seriously think about buying sooner rather than later - why would you take the risk. I guess I'm just fed up in general of prices being put up artificially so that they can have a sale later on.
Sounds like thats not the case here, so hopefully it will help some DIYer out with their project.

Shortage of Scandinavian wood, that seems unlikely.

Is this like the old drug dealers trick, tell the customer there is a drought imminent, so they stock up or are prepared for a higher cost at the next visit.
