There is a comparable Powercolor card from Overclockers for £109.99 inc VAT but excluding deliver (I've read that there are free delivery codes for their forum members?).

I know some people don't like this company, but may well indicate that roughly £110 will be new default price for the 4870 1GB cards.

I think you should put the correct picture. The Fan that is shown in the ARIA web-site is a good fan or at least it should be better than the normal stock ones as shown in your picture.

The card or the deal?

Will really depend on the games you play, settings used & screen resolution.

Out of stock already from the SuperSpecials section.

Well, I'm upgrading my system completely soon but not replacing my monitor yet so I will be playing at 1440x900 and would like to run everything on full or as close to that as possible. I plan to replace my monitor at a later date.

Anything up to 1680 x 1050 (most 22" screens are) a 512Mb 4870 or equivalent card will do fine.

If you'll be gaming at 1920x1200 res & above (24" & larger monitors) in the future, aim for a good-excellent 1Gb card.

The only game that'll suffer with just about any card & res at higher settings is probably Crysis.

That's cos it's poorly coded!!

The 4870 is a great card and will handle all if not most of the newer games on high detail. May struggle a little at 1920 x 1200.

I'm using a 4870x2 but only at 1680 x 1050. Not sure about the 4870 single card, but if you have the x2 you don't need any central heating in the house.

Note also, it's worth checking to see if your power supply is upto spec before buying.

Some say it goes full tilt even @ 1920x1200 with that monster in most games.

This card will run pretty much every game nicely on that resolution

don't forget GTA IV - any card will struggle with that bundle of messy code

but at 1440x900 (which i use), Crysis will run smoothly on High settings - u get a performance drop on Ultra, but still playable.

Cool, well I'd like to get a card that would still perform well at a higher than 1440x900 resolution for when I eventually replace my monitor, would it be worth doing this or would it be wiser to just get a new gfx card then?

I'd like to play GTA IV also, im either getting a Phenom II or i7, depends on the costs, how do you think it would run?

Hmm, debateable.

Games are so much more GPU-dependent. So I'd say get an average dual-core CPU & overclock it, or even a secondhand Q6600 for ~£80 (?), & put the money saved towards the best graphics card you can afford.

eBay / AVForums / Hexus classifieds (for the latter you need a minimum of 100 posts though to be able to view the classifieds section / trade).
