Buying mobiles here and selling straight on to Mazuma for a profit

POSTED BY: Scribbles 4 months, 4 weeks ago

This seems to be a (seemingly) growing trend, as I am startled by the amount of offers that I see from the same old faces that offer less than Mazuma. It follows that the only reason for the purchase would be to sell on for a quick profit, making the buyer, in effect, a trader.
Is this practice becoming rife on here? And should offers of less than what Mazuma (and similar services) offer be classed as lowball offers?

If the OP doesn't want to trade in to Mazuma etc and wants to sell direct to somebody, that's their loss.

I've sold games on here for less than their trade-in value, would that not be classed as the same thing?

I totally agree with the principle behind what you are saying, but you see the same people after PC's and parts, consoles, games etc.

It'd be a hard practice to manage if they started doing that.

anyone seen to be buying and sellng in phones will get pulled when a mod notices, same as console buying and selling, computer buying and selling etc,etc but mods dont read threads s either happen upon them or are seen because of reports

Yeah, it would be difficult. I'm mostly alerting people to not be foolish enough to fall for it by posting this
If just a few people make an extra tenner selling their N96 then my post achieved it's purpose. I just noticed the growing trend and had to post lol

lol Good man.

It's the risk people take selling on here though, everybody seems to be looking to make £5 or £10 whatever way they can.

I don't mind selling stuff cheaply, but I won't give it away.

or the buyer could just be trying to get a good price.

If you suspect the person to be doing it. Report it and submit the (links) proof. Admins will either rule and agree, or keep any eye on it.

Exactly. Even taking special delivery into account, it's better by far than the £110 or less that you would get offered on here

I have to admit that I do agree with the OP a great deal. I put a phone I had, up for sale on here, I bought it for around £30-£35...was hardly used at all, but becuase some place had given them as replacements for another budget phone that cost £7, I was getting ridulously low offers of a fiver on here......I ended up going to one of the online phone sites and getting £24 for it.

I've noticed that there is an expectation on the FS/FT forum, that for any item being sold, it should be sold for the cheapest price regardless. People dont always want top dollar for their item as they know that they wont get it but they do expect a fair price. So when some potential buyers put in ridiculously low offers, its no wonder that the seller points out to them that they are just being silly expecting it to be sold for such a low price. The seller sets the selling price for their item, not the buyer. As long as the seller doesnt put a price above RRP then they are fine.

If any buyer reads the listing and deems the price to be too high then they shouldnt bother making a ridiculously low offer, and if they do make that offer and its turned down then they should move on.

Except that in practice the ridiculously low offer effectively kills the thread to reasonable offers. You may as well expire the thread and relist in a week, rather than waiting for a 'real' offer that will never appear.

True, but you could report it as an unfair bump and have the mods remove it.....?
