Cheapest Branded 4 Port POWERED USB hub about.... tho happy to be proved wrong!

Sales Talk:

This USB innovation from Belkin lets you connect up to four peripherals quickly and easily. Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-Port Hub provides four downstream USB ports that offer Plug-and-Play connectivity to your USB 1.1 (low- and full-speed) and USB 2.0 (high-speed) devices. This includes such peripherals as scanners, printers, mass-storage drives, and high-resolution cameras. The Hub is self-powered and allows cascading - so that up to 127 USB devices may be connected to a single port. The Hub is uniquely designed so that the four downstream ports can be positioned toward the back of the desktop for efficient cable management, or to the front of the desktop for easier port access. LEDs allow you to easily monitor master power and individual ports.
Comes with a UK 3 Pin Power Adapter.

probably a daft question, but any idea if this will work without the power unit, for low powered usb devices.

It might... but im sure you would be able to find cheaper non powered hubs.

Dealextreme comes to mind.

Hard to find cheap powered hubs as the ones from Dealextreme come with US plugs - but fine for non powered.

Tried the Belkin one and for my money its a piece of crap - it only works with "simple" devices like mouse and keyboard - give it something more complicated like a scanner or a printer and it goes to pieces.

I can second that, I have this Belkin Hub (but not the power supply). Works with everything I've tried on it, but I don't have a printer or scanner.

Thanks - need to use mainly with laptop and didn't want to cart the power supply around, but might need to use the extra power at home occasionally. Ordered.

All printer manufacturers recommend that you DO NOT connect through a hub (powered or not). No reason given, and really, no reason required.

I have two of these lil' hubs and have 2 scanners, graphics tablet, Ext HD and camera going through them without any probs... I also paid £7.99, so £5 is great.

I use one of these to connect a joystick and 2 external hard-drives (both powered externally), works a treat!

i've got a 7 port belkin one (powered via USB) and it works a treat. I've thrown everything at it from cameras to external hard drives - works fine.
