1471 on VM tells me the number then I used to type that into

Silent calls are strictly illegal, Barclaycard got a big fine for this

edit: oh after re-reading the news story carphone warehouse (who own talk talk) already got fined for this

"Ofcom has previously fined Abbey National, Complete Credit Management, Space Kitchens, Bracken Bay Kitchens, Carphone Warehouse and Toucan for breaches of its rules on silent and abandoned calls. "

If you know it was talk talk and there was not even a recorded message you should report them to ofcom.

Not sure what it adds to a TPS registration, though:

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a free service. It is the official central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.

It's still supposed to be a tangible item even if it is free. This is more like a tip than a deal.

Anyway it's still useful information for people who don't already know this.

OFCOM may not take your individual experience seriously but they do not tolerate companies flaunting their rules. Talk Talk will not want a 50k fine and ofcom can shut them down if they don;t stop doing this. They have been in trouble before.
