Not mentioning Ebay,

POSTED BY: tonyg1962 4 months, 2 weeks ago

I am looking for a phone (lets say a LG Arena),Now these regularly sell for £150 on ebay and lets say someone advertises one on here for £300 and i want to offer them £140,Now would that be considered a derisary offer as they would still make more money than if they sold on Ebay,Now what happens if they say this phone sells for much more than that and i say i regularly see them sell for £150 and they ask "where ?".what do i answer ?.

As long as you could demonstrate that the item being offered can be acquired elsewhere for a similar price and condition then I wouldnt see it as a ridiculously low offer.

But do keep in mind that the item price is dictated by the seller (as long as its not over RRP) . End result is that if the seller prices their item too high then it probably wont sell, defeating the purpose of them listing it in the first place.

Both parties have to be realistic on the sale price.

Yes but you cannot demonstrate that it is regularly sold at that price as you arent allowed to mention Ebay.

15) The ONLY exception to this is if you see the EXACT item priced higher than available new elsewhere. In this case a third-party can make a post but ONLY in the following format: LINK TO MERCHANT - PRICE. No comments, just the facts. This must be the final price after VAT/shipping for a new product and from a reputable merchant. Price comparison to auction sites, classifieds or other personal sales are NOT allowed. Members who DO NOT follow these posting rules face a ban from the FS/FT forum.

Yeah as far as I knew you couldn't make price comparisons with Ebay.

I think the rule is mainly to stop members thread spoiling by comparing to Ebay prices in the FS/FT forum.

I have mentioned Ebay when I am genuinely interested in an item on here, and not just pointing out where it is available cheaper.
I guess it's against the rules, but not been caught yet.

Reported for self admission of breaking rules

OP : I think that you cant make reference to a specific auction listing, however in general you can state that the item is widely available at a lower price for the same item in a similar condition thats stated by the FS/FT listing

i would think a little common sense would be applied to this , fair enopugh not comparing something new with ebay but when its like for like i dont see a problem as ebay completed listings give you a rough idea oif market value for used items

discretion?
