bit worried about that bit. i thought all 4xxx series did 7.1 LPCM, but reading that i lost my confidence....

Think only one high end sound card currently offers that (think it is an Xonar). Support for that is apparently not great too.

They all "could" do it. There is an uphill battle though between the licensers, the codec creators, the playback software companies and the hardware vendors.

For this price you' be crazy to miss out I just ordered mine. Basically the card makes out at £59 when you take away worth of the game: GRID! So its a super duper deal. But is already posted.

the 4xxx series does offer 7.1 LPCM sound via HDMI using the correct adapter.

Performance wise exactly the same but that has a better cooler which would be a bit quieter but also enable you to overclock better ,
