Usenet 50GB block account £7.52 with voucher = £0.15/GB @ Newsgroupdirect

£7.52

I know Astraweb block account is cheaper if you buy the $25 for 180GB, but for low users their $10 for 25GB is a bit steep.

I found this deal from NewsGroupDirect which is 50GB for £9.40 - using voucher code ngd59285859 gives 20% off making it £7.52 for 50GB. This includes SSL too.

I've never used this before what would you recommend for a trail?

Is the one you mention a block account?

personally I use Astraweb along with grabbit and NZB matrix 180 gb lasts forever.

This is a hot deal.

I find it really hard to vote DS games, dvds and Cds hot when services such as these are available. Although I hasten to add I still do buy the aforementioned as Mrs Redjay is ultra moralistic.

For the uninitiated:

Newsgroup direct/Astra web are like the severs which hold mp3s, apps, movies etc

NZBMatrix and others are like search engines that find you what you are looking for e.g. you can put in a search for an mp3 or whatever and you can download what is best described as a link file (I paid 1 think it was £7 for a lifetime vip membership of NZB matrix - not saying it's the best, but it's the one I use.

You then use a program like Grabbit - it's free(if you're familiar with the Utorrent program it's a similar idea) you put the file into Grabbit and it downloads the file for you and voila you have your mp3 or whatever.

although it seems to be a complex, it is really very easy and much much quicker to download from than torrent sites and IMO safer too.

there maybe some techie folk laughing at my misnomers and what not. Please feel free to correct and add to what Ihave said.

P.S. I am not advising anyone to download illegal content.

I have not voted this deal cold but I do believe there are better value packages out there.
However, the pricing depends on your needs.
Hitnews offers unlimited downloads for between 2.95 euro a month to 16.99 euro per month. The one that I chose was a restricted hours service (my ISP gives me unlimited downloads between 2300 and 0700), with 8 connections. It also offers a choice of SSL ports and gets cheaper if you are prepared to pay up front. I constantly get the maximum speed my line allows and rarely have problems with retention and because I paid 12 months up front I got 12 months for 52.50 euro. However, if you want to pay monthly it would be just 4.75 euro.

More deals/prices can be found here:

I really don't want to start a bun fight here but you did see the 1 month option for 2,95? Limited options I know... but there is also a 1.50 option 48 hours. (price in Euro). This should be ideal for casual users.

As I stated in my original mail, the deal depends on your needs/usage. Everyone I know who uses newsgroups would find this deal expensive. Hitnews does not have limited options if you have a good understanding of the subject. As I also stated before, I have yet to experience problems with them. That is my point.

However, I'm sure the readers of this forum are savvy enough to be able to work out which deal is best for them.

I see no problem with providing alternatives. It was not my intention to detract from your original deal.

I am concentrating on the block account as this is the type of account I needed. It is also what a lot of other people like me who do not download regularly like to use, so comparing it to monthly account is just silly. There are cheaper monthly account, think Astraweb do unlimited for about £55 for the year. If you can find a cheaper block account around the same number of GB, I'd be more that happy to hear about it.
