Is this the one? Any reviews or personal experience. Am I right in thinking that Lacie tend to fit the drive that they can get for the best price at the time of manufacture and that you cannot therefore be certain of what HD might be fitted?

No vote till I know more

Not a direct comment on this, but I had a 1TB LaCie ethernet big disk and it broke twice in just over a year. Lacie did sort it out, but it took about 2 months on each occasion.

I know the person who bought it on Ebay - it was still crap! (just kidding)

It's much more stylish than some external drive boxes and a fair bit cheaper elsewhere (£99.99) but the performance reviews aren't great and there are better options

I work in video production and we used to have a number of LaCie drives but we found them to be very unreliable and in the end just dumped them. I would strongly recommend to anyone not to spend any money on LaCie stuff, the UK support is also in-line with the products being equally as bad.

I love how every single post about this drive is negative, yet it still gets hot and hits the front page...

It has a gigabit port..

Speeds are no where close to that due to because SATA drives dont support that kinda speeds.
People dont realize this and call it slow

It is fancy and you pay extra moolah for that ! period.

You could find other cheaper NAS enclosures..

Actually neither of those is the bottleneck, because the throughput you get is a fraction of either... It's got more to do with the processing power of the NAS box itself.

Had a 250GB ethernet drive with UPNP etc. drive died at age 13 months. Had to be fixed in France but they could not fix it so sent me a new 320 GB drive

It had gigabit but transfer rate was more like 250mbps.

Great drive till it died and I lost all the data.

had this for six months. worked good, but suddenly drive corrupted, and theres no way to recover the data. the tech support is useless, they gave me a number to call in the USA which didnt even work. I would not recommend this drive, as all the data and the networkspace software is installed on the same drive which makes it very difficult to change the drives around.

These are the best HDD money can buy to fail and make you lose your data, and then your job.

I don't understand, but maybe its cos I'm new to HUKDs, but so far everyone seems to slate this yet it is getting "hotter"

How does that work then?
